    I. JL WHITE II PORTLAND
INSPECTING SYSTEM OP ORE
GON" ELECTRIC COMPANY.
Member of Company That 18 Financ
ing System Confirms Announce
ment of Proposed Extensions.
VS. A. White, of the firm of Moffatt &
White, the New York syndicate, which
Is financing the Oregon Kloctric Railway,
is registered at the Portland, accom
panied by his son, A. V. White, also
of New York. Mr. White annually visits
the Pacific Coast, where he has interests
aside from those of the Oregon Elec
tric, and declined yesterday to enter
Into a discussion of tho plans of the
men who are tinanclng the road other
than to confirm the published report of
proposed extensions of the system
throughout the Willamette Valley and
into the Coast counties.
Accompanied by Guy W. Talbot, gen
eral manager of the Oregon Klectrtc, and
members of the contracting firm which
built tho road, Mr. White and son yes
terday made a trip of inspection to
Balem. This was the first trip Mr. White
has made over the road since It was
completed.
Mr. White leaves today on a fishing
trip to Meadow Lake and will return to
Portland again next week. A few days
later he will go to Spokane, where he
has other business. He will be in Spo
kane probably until June 1, when he
will return to Portland and Join his as
sociates, George B. Moffatt, A. C. Bed
ford and W. S. Barstow, pf New York,
'who are expected to be in this city about
that time. The financiers of the road
will then complote their inspection of
the system as far as it has been conr
structed and arrange definitely for vig
orously pushing the work on the various
extensions that have been decided on.
PELEGATION SOLID FOR TAFT
G. C. Fulton Declares Oregon Repre
sentatives Will Bo Instructed.
"A large majority of the delegates to
the Republican State and Congressional
conventions in this city next Thursday
will be friends of Secretary Taft," said
G. C. Fulton, of Astoria, brother of
Senator Fulton, yesterday. ''Of the 239
delegates in the state convention, more
than one-half will come to the convention
instructed for Taft. Reports from
throughout the state conclusively indicate
that the membership of the two congres
Fional conventions will consist largely of
Taft men. The state convention will
select four of the eight delegates to the
Chicago convention and each of the two
congressional conventions will select two.
There can be no question but that the
throe conventions will be dominated by
friends of Taft and this means that an
instructed Taft delegation will be sent
from Oregon to the 'National convention.
This assertion is based on the reports I
have received."
Mr. Fulton went to Astoria last night,
temporarily leaving- the Fulton-Taft head
quarters at the Imperial Hotel in charge
of J. H. Brown and C. W. Halderman.
He will return, however, early next week
further to organize the Taft forces in the
three conventions.
Since coming to Portland and establish
ing headquarters at the Imperial the first
, of the week, Mr. Fullon has been busy.
He said yesterday that he had heard from
practically every county in the state and
had learned that a majority of the dele
gates are pledged to Taft and have in
structions to work for an instructed Taft
delegation to the Chicago convention.
Twenty-five of the 33 counties of the state
have selected their delegates to the state
and "congressional "conventions. The only
counties yet to make these selections are:
Poos, Curry, Crook, Grant, Lake, Lane,
Morrow and Wheeler. .The Fulton-Taft
forces declare that the delegation from
Clackamas County, which has been
claimed by the Bourne people, will not be
unfriendly to the Secretary of War and
the plan to send an instructed delegation
to Chicago. C. G. Huntley, of Oregon
City, who will probably head the delega
tion from Clackamas, will have the in-
dorsement of his county as one of the
delegate to the National convention. He
Is known always to have been a staunch
Fulton man.
