OAKLAND, May 4. 0r. O. D. Hamlin,
head surgeon of the Providence 'Hospital,
answering a hurry call to the institution
in a speeding automobile at 9 o'clock
tonight, ran down Company A., N. G. C,
which was drilling at the corner of Broad
way and Twentieth street, and scattered
the soldiers in all directions.
.Three of the company, Sargeant A. H
Jones and Privates S. H. Hansen and F.
E. Davia, were thrown into the air and
badly injured. Hansen was rendered un
conscious and Sargeant Jones and Private
Davis badly lacerated. The three injured
men were bundled into Dr. Hamlin's auto
mobile and taken to Providence Hospital,
where it is reported all will recover.

per, Tarantula, CutUeflah arwl Octopus.
Plans for selling 300,000 acres of land in
Southern Oregon, In Klamath Lake and
Harney Counties, have been perfected by
the Minnesota syndicate which, nearly
two years ago, bought the land from the
Orepron Central Military Road Company
and the Booth-Kelly Lumber Company.
Of the 500,000-acre purchase, 300,000 has
been set apart in 12,000 farms, most of
them ten and 20-acre tracts. The land
was originally granted by the United
States for a wagon road from Eugene
through Southern Oregon to the Idaho
boundary.
In Lake County, near Goose Lake,
about 29.000 acres are to be irrigated with
permanent irrigation works, says the pros
pectus of the enterprise. The price of
each of the 12.000 farms is to be $300. but
should more than one person want a par
ticular piece of land, they are to bid
against each other for it and whatever
sum exceeding $200 that the land shall
sell for, shall go into a fund to be divided
pro rata among all the purchasers. No
sale Is to be made until all the farms
have been signed for by Intending purchasers.
