FIRST ANNUAL CONVENTION
Portland District Fpworth lague
Will Meet Next Month.
The first annual convention of the Port
land District Epworth League -a-III be
held In the Methodist Episcopal Church,
at Vnlversltv Park, from May 21 to Slay
24- This has been decided by the cabinet
of the newly-formed organization. Under
the ormer districts an entire year was
consumed in gathering material for the
annual convention, and It will, therefore,
been seen that the resent cabinet has
undertaken a (treat task, there beinff only
about seven weeks in which to prepare.
Because of the pertjllar conditions exist
in? it was thoueht advisahle. however,
to brine; the chapters of the Portland dis
trict together at an early date.
There are about 30 Kpworth Leassue
chapters, perhaps one-third as many
Junior League chapters and a few Inter
mediate chapters in the Portland dis
trict. Owing- to the fact that Bishop
David H. Moore changed the boundaries
of the districts at the last annual con
ference It became necessary to reorganize
the district Epworth League. This was
accomnltshed last week at the Centen
ary Methodist Church, when officers were
elected. At the first cabinet meeting It
was voted to proceed at once with the
plans for the first annual convention, and
the dates were fixed as stated.
There will be morning, afternoon and
evening sessions during trie annual con
vention ,and all phases of Epworth
League work will be discussed, papers
will be presonted and all of the activities
of the League chapters will be fully re
viewed. Commencing next Sunday, the
cabinet officers will visit from time to
time each of the chapters of the district
in order to come Into closer touch with
the work of each charge.
