There arrived in Portland recently a carload of the poorest, skinniest, shelly old cows that ever disgraced this
city of ours, consigned to a local butcher. 'Tis a shame that our 'grand State of Oregon should have no law
protecting the consumer from suph awful meats. The only protection that Portland people have is through
Federal inspection, hut that is NOT COMPULSORY upon all slaughter
houses, giving those that dare not have Federal inspection the opportunity
to buy up this class of stuff and foist it off upon a credulous and trusting
public. The law of libel does not allow ns to publish the names of these
unscrupulous buyers, hut he careful in buying that you do not partake of '
some of these LIVING SKELETONS. See that the market offering you meat
dare show his meat to you in the carcass instead of scraps and pieces that
may havs been cut up in some filthy, dirty, disease-breeding back room. We
do not need to hide our meats from the buyer. We take pride in showing ,
you the meat with the date of slaughter stamped plainly on each carcass,
and furthermore do all of our cutting right before you. STUDY CONDI
