lea M. Taft, mother of the Secretary of
War, Is astaln seriously ill here. Her ill
ness Is due to gallstones and for a time
the, past Summer her condition was criti
cal. Recently she was believed to be on
the way to recovery, but she has now
suffered a relapse.

WEATHER CONDITIONS.
A large high-pressure area overlies South
ern Idaho and the barometer Is relatively
low near 'Cape Flattery. During the last
24 hours light rain has fallen In North
western Oregon. Washington and Northern
Idaho, and a moderate southerly gale has
prevailed along the Washington coast. The
wire to North Head Is down this evening,
but the Tatoosh Island station reports a
maximum wind velocity of 60 miles, from
the south, during the last 12 hours.
The Indications are for rain Friday In
Oregon. Washington and Northern Idaho,
and for gererally fair weather In Southern
Idaho. The winds will continue strong
along the Washington coast' and la the
Puget Sound country.

Portland and vicinity Occasional rain;
southerly winds.
Western Oregon and Western Washington
Occasional rain, with a moderate souther
ly gale along the coast.
