DR. VAX TASSLE'S BROTHER-IN
- IiAW ARRIVKS.
D. V. Burns Will Accompany Un
fortunate Berkeley Physician
Home, Leaving Today.
Having almost fully recovered his
memory. Dr. Fred H. Van Tassle, of
Berkeley, Cal., who haa been at St.
Vincent's Hospital for the past few
daya under the care f Dr. K. A. J.
Mackenzie, will leave for his California
home this morning, in company with
his brother-in-law. D. W. Burns, of
Redondo. Cal. Dr. Van Tassle is the
man who came to Portland in
search of his lost identity, having
forgotten who he was or where he
lived. He reported his strange case,
upon arriving here, to Dr. K. A. J.
Mackenzie, who decided that the man
was a physician, and this clew led to
final Identification.
' D. "W. Burns arrived in Portland yes
terday morning, and at once recognized
the man as his brother-in-law. Dr. Van
Tassle knew Mr. Burns, and arrival of
the latter seemed to restore his mem
ory In connection with his family af
fairs. "
The brother-in-law scouted the idea
of any financial or family trouble be
ing responsible for the strange disap
pearance, and says it was undoubtedly
the blow on the head that the doctor
received from robbers that temporarily
deprived him of all sense of memory.
The California relatives are over
Joyed that the missing man has been
.found. While he Is still somewhat
hazy in his recollection of some inci
dents of the past, his mind seems to
be clearing up gradually, and it is ex
pected he will have full use of all his
faculties again within a few days.
Dr. Mackenzie Is happy over the re
storation of the man to his friends,
which was brought about through the
belief of Dr. Mackenzie that the man
was a physician, and the subsequent
communlcatlvn with the family. How
Dr. Mackenzie discovered that the man
had practiced medicine he can hardly
say, but a combination of minor Inci
dents convinced him that such was the
case, although the evidence was too
intangible to admit of proof. This de
tective worn on Dr. Mackenzie's part
is responsible for establishing the
Identity of Dr. Van Tassle.

AN OLD EDITOR
Found 2000 Worth of Food.
The editor of a paper out in Oklahoma
said: "Yes, it is true when I got hold of
Grape-Nuts food. It was worth more than
a $2000 doctor bill to me, for it made me a
well man. I have gained 25 pounds in
weight, my strength haa returned tenfold,
my brain power has been given back to
me, and that Is an absolute essential, for
I am an editor and have been for S3
years.
"My pen shall always be ready to
speak a good word for this powerful nu
tritive food. I had of course often read
the advertisements regarding Grape-Nuts,
but never thought to apply the food to
my own use, until. In my extremity and
sickness the thought came to me that It
might fit my case. . The statements in
regard to the food are absolutely correct,
as I have proven in my own case. One
very fortunate thing about the food is
that while It is the most scientifically
made and highly nourishing, concentrated
food I have ever known, it has so deli
cious a taste that it wins and holds
friends." "There's a Reason." Read

Grand Free Steamboat

For the. purpose of demonstrating to the public, beyond all peradventure of a doubt, that there is coal, plenty of coal, coal in tremendous
quantities and of excellent quality, within 54 miles of the City of Portland, we have chartered the ' V

for next Sunday. The boat will leave the foot of Salmon street at 7 130 o'clock next Sunday morning. The trip down the Columbia River
. to the mouth of the Cowlitz will be a delightful one in the bright morning. Lunch will be served free before arrival at the temporary docks
of the Consumers Coal Company. Then will follow an inspection of the property under the supervision of Mine Boss Kelsey. Those who
wish, may enter the tunnels and explore to their hearts' content. When all have been absolutely satisfied of the good intention of this com
pany's offer of stock in a paying coal mine, boat will leave for Portland, arriving in cool of the evening. Supper served free on return trip.
THOSE WHO ARE PARTICULARLY INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS TRIP
are men and women who would be perfectly willing to invest in a profitable coal property, if the profitableness of it could be satisfactorily
demonstrated! We are frank to admit that many people in Portland are skeptical about this offer and that is all the more the reason why we
are desirous of having them decide, after a personal inspection of the coal deposit we have located and will operate within a very few weeks.
Call at our office for detailed information, about .the trip.
THERE IS ROOM FOR ONLY ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY PEOPLE
and it is necessary for you to apply for your tickets at our office early in the week. Coal experts, coalminers, purchasing agents for coal
consuming companies, mineralogists and all who are at all interested or have had any experience in coal mines will be especially welcome
and are urged to join with us. Men with wives are earnestly invited to bring them along. Previsions for their comfort will be arranged.
It will be a pleasurable and profitable day's outing for all.
