Neither Mitchell. McCredie nor Jud Smith

The big rain did several thitigs. It

Manager McCredie insisted upon going
to bat first. This was the first evidence
that the skidoo sign was working. There

It was Cartwright's unexpected two

DATES FOR BOXING
Tournaments Between Mult

FOOTBALL GAMES FIXED
Multnomah Plays at Seattle Chrlslv

kane, on Latter's Grounds,
Thanksgiving Day.
SEATTLE. Wash., Sept. IS. (Spe
cial.) Dates for the boxing and wrest
ling tournament, to be held between
Multnomah, Seattle and Spokane Ath
letic Clubs were agreed upon today,
as follows:
Multnomah, meets Seattle at Seattle. No
vember 7; meets Spokane at Spokane. April
5; meet Seattle at Portland. New Year's
eve; meets Spokane at Portland. March 1.
'Seattle meets Spokane at Spokane Thanks-g-iving
eve. November 25: meets Spokane at
Seattle. January 2o.
The Seattle football team plays Multno
mah at Portland on New Year's day and
the boxing- and wrestling tournament was
fixed tor the preceding evening, a single
trip to cover them.
Multnomah agreed today to play the
Seattle Athletic Club football team
here Christmas, but it was deemed in
advisable to fix the boxing and wrest
ling tournament either Christmas
night or the preceding evening. So
Multnomah will make an extra trip to
Puget Sound. Seattle has a football
date with Spokane Thanksgiving day
and got the wrestling and boxing date
for the preceding evening, to save
traveling expenses.
It was agreed today that there will
be two boxing and two wrestling
events in each tournament. The visit
ing club will name the classes for each
event. For both wrestling and boxing
classes were designated running from
115 . to 175-pound men. ,The classes
advance, five pounds at a time, from
115 to 135 pounds, then Jumps to 158,
and then to 175 or over.
Edgar Frank, of Multnomah; W.
Hinglis. of Seattle, and E. A. Wraight,
of Spokane, arranged the schedule.
' TAGS ARE NOT REQUIRED.
Provisions of the Game law Re
garding Shipping of Carcasses.
The idea, prevails in some quarters that
tags are necessary for the shipment of
carcasses of deer in this state, and fre
quent applications are made therefor at
the County Clerk's office by hunters. This
is a misapprehension, as any portion of
a carcass can be shipped anywhere in
Oregon without a tag, the law in that
respect relating entirely to the hides.
. For some reason or other the sale of
hunters' permits this year is far below
that of previous years, although it is
probable that there will be a heavy In
crease in applications for licenses from
now on up to October 1, when the grouse
and pheasant season opens. Some peo
ple fail to realize that there 1b a penalty
attached to hunting in this state without
a permit, the maximum penalty being
J10O fine or imprisonment not to exceed 30
days, and the minimum CS. fine or five
days' Imprisonment. Both fine and Im
prisonment can be imposed in either case.
About $18,000 is collected annually from
the sale of hunters' licenses and fines,
and the game wardens have full power
to use this amount in the protection of
game. A permit Issued in one county, ,1s
good anywhere in the state, so that it is
not necessary for a hunter to wait until
reaching the county be wants to hunt in
before securing the necessary license. .
The trout season in this state opens
April 1 and closes October 31 of eac-i
year.

To Extend Rural Route.
An effort is being made to extend
mail route No. 2, rural free -delivery,
at Lents. Carrier Tweed now has only
11 miles of road to travel, and does not
get the maximum salary, hence he is
making an effort to add mileage to
his route. The territory he seeks to
cover Is contiguous to Ninth street.
Tenth avenue and the Oregon City road
to Mount Scott. The petition far same
has been sent to the Department at
Washington, and a reply has been re
ceived promising immediate investiga
tion. The additional distance will be
about three miles. Fred Spooner, car
rier No. 1, now serves over 400 boxes,
and there Is a prospect that his route
will be shortened so as to equalize the
work between the two carriers.
