FOUR ROADS TO PRISON
Gonrdain Given Advice on Methods
of Securing Reincarceration.
CHICAGO, July 20 Four ways by
which Louis A. Gourdain, who Is now in
the East seeking some avenue hy which
he may force an entrance into the peni
tentiary at Joliet, can attain his end ifhe
returns to Chicago and seeks them, were
pointed out yesterday by Government at
taches. The means by which the lottery
man can get relief from freedom follows:
First Application to Judge Peter S.
Grosscup in the court which granted the
supersedeas upon which Gourdain was re
leased pending an appeal to quash the
supersedeas. Result: Seizure by United
States Marshal and return to the peni
tentiary. Second Application to the District
Court to revoke his appeal bond. Result:
Quashing of supersedeas and seizure.
Third Application to United States Dis
trict Attorney Morrison to seek the revo
cation of his bond of J10.000 on the super
sedeas or his appeal bond. Result:
Seizure and arrest.
Fourth Compel his bondsmen. John H.
Dalton and his wife, to surrender him
into the custody, of the United States Mar
shal. Result: Surrender of a defendant
by surety always places him back into
the custody of the prosecution.
