Thomas Papworth Pays $30,000 lor
Brick Between Oak and Pine.
Thomas Papworth yesterday purchased
the three-story brick building occupied by
the Roberts-MannlriK Company, on Front
street between Oak and Pine. The build
ing was owned by K. B. damson and sold
for J30.000. It occupies a single lot. and Is
one of the last pieces of Front-street prop
erty on the. market. The sale was made
by Goldsmith & Co.
R. B. Lamson has also concluded the
sale of the property at the northeast cor
ner of Tenth and Burnside streets to Isaac
Swett The sale is entered in the official
transfers at a 1 valuation, but is under
stood to have involved about J20.000. A
mortgage on It of J12.700 has been record
ed showing an instance of how the realty
transfers in Portland are held down by
the entrance of nominal valuations.

WEATHER CONDITIONS.
A thunderstorm occurred during the aft
ernoon at Tonopah. New. but no rain at
tended It and none has fallen at any report
ing station west of the Rocky Mountains for
several days. The temperature rose 8 de
grees to a maximum of 9S at Portland. Only
two other days have been hotter this year,
one being on July 3. when the maximum was
101 degrees and the other being July 2.
when the maximum was 99.
High' temperatures also prevail generally
In the Pacific States. At Walla Walla the
maximum was 102 degrees and It was
equally as hot at Roseburg. while at Red
Bluff. Cal.. the maximum was 108 degrees.
The conditions are favorable for fair and
continued warm weather Friday east of the
Cascade Mountains, w hile in Western Oregon
it will not be so warm.
