L BAUER Tells Her That Her Hnsband Is Faithless and He Will Shoot Him, but Runs When the Woman Points Weapon at Him. Mrs. John L Bauer, the heroine, her husband, the hero, John O'Connor, the villain, Gus Schultz, the boy detective, and the villain's divorced wife, one of the cast, were the principal figures in the thrilling society drama "Divorced and Still in Love, or All Means Are Fair in Love and War," performed yester day before the eminent critic Judge George Cameron in the spacious audi torium of the Municipal Court. The plot is woven around the pas sionate love of John O'Connor, an em ploye of the Portland Gas Company, for his former wife and his constant Jealousy of her for the last six months. The scheme for the plot is furnished by Gus Schultz, the boy detective, who in forms O'Connor one day that he saw the latter's wife at The Oaks in com pany with a man. That man, O'Connor is further Informed, is John L. Bauer, who keeps a saloon in this city. He Evolves His Plot. O'Connor's wrath grows as he dis covers that Bauer is married, and he promptly elaborates his plan of ac tion. First he telephones Mrs. Bauer, but when she hears of the malignant charges against her beloved husband she hangs up the receiver with a bang. Is the villain daunted? Oh, no. Not los ing one minute he decides to make a personal visit and takes the boy de tective along. They go to the Harrison Court, where the heroine, Mrs. Bauer, makes her residence with her husband. Mrs. Bauer herself opens the door and, although not "charmed" with her guests, invites them in. There O'Connor fully describes how the husband of the hostess was seen in the company of his wife, delivered to the finest details. O'Connor also men tions that he will shoot Mr. Bauer and to emphasize his intention shows a large revolver, conveniently hidden in the folds of his sack suit. Mrs. Bauer patiently listens to the tale and seems greatly interested in the information. To show her appre ciation she asks her guests to wait a few minutes while she goes up stairs. Woman Returns With Revolver. She shortly returns with her hand behind her back and at the foot of the stairs shows the two gentlemen the front end of the ugly muzzle of a large revolver. Here the villain wavers. But all is not lost yet. With one mighty effort he clears the hall, lands on the pavement and makes his exit. His friend, Mr. Schultz, not so fleet, decides to stay. Mrs. Bauer backs him up against a wall and politely asks him (while the revolver in her hand is still pointing in his direction) to wait and meet her husband who is due to arrive shortly at the request of her mother. The hero arrives. He asks an expla nation, finds out that Schultz is only an innocent bystander, and swears he will have the villain's blood. As the days of chivalry are past the irate husband rushes to court and swears out a prosaic warrant for the arrest of John O'Connor on the un poetic charge of "threatening to kill." Reviewed in Court. The whole case was in court yesterday and the proceedings fully reviewed before Judge Cameron. Mrs. Bauer's testimony occupied the principal part of the proceedings. She de scribed how O'Connor telephoned to her and then went to her house, how he showed the revolver, threatening to shoot her hus band, and how she went upstairs, obtained her husband's revolver and made one of the intruders stay and await her husband. "The idea," said' Mrs. Bauer, "of coming and telling me. a sick woman, that my husband went out with another woman. Never. "Why, my husband is always with me, and I know everything that he does. Why, I would shoot anyone who wanted to shoot my husband." Here, turning to the Judge, Mrs. Bauer declared that had O'Connor been a gentleman he would not have run away from a woman. When cross-examined by O'Connor's at torney, Mrs. Bauer staunchly declared that O'Connor made the threat to kill her Store Open Tonight Until 9:30 The Meier 3& Frank Store Saturday Specials in Boys' Clothing Economical parents will look to the hot weather needs of the little fellows and profit by the grand bargains we are offering in seasonable apparel of every description Here are a few worthy of investigation : Special lot of Children's Washable Rompers, in linen effects; neatly trimmed in red ; ages 1 to 6 years; great special value at this low price OjC Boys' Washable Sailor Suits, in tans, grays and blue chambrays; neat stripes ; ages 4 to 10 years ; regular $1.50 and $1.75 tf e values, on sale at y id J Boys' Washable Russian Blouse Suits, in -grays, blues, pink chambrays and striped galatea cloths ; ages 2 to 6 years ; $1.50 d i " and $1.75 values, on sale at plIO Boys' Vacation Suits, made in military style, with long trousers, of tan covert ; just the suit for rough-and-ready wear ; all l r ages ; great value at J Boys' Summer Apparel Wash Suits, Blouses, etc. The largest and most complete stock in the city. From the testimony of the former Mrs. O'Connor It developed she never saw Mr. Bauer, and, of course, never went out to The Oaks with him. Schultz, the young friend of O'Connor, who, in the opinion of Judge Cameron, "is responsible for all this disturbance," testified that he did not tell O'Connor that his wife was out at The Oaks with Bauer, and his own at torney commented that "Schultz is prob ably mistaken in that, as before he insist ed he did see them and told O'Connor about it." Judge Cameron told Mrs. Bauer that she did the right thing, and placed O'Connor under 200 bonds to keep the peace and not to molest Mr. Bauer. Canvass Favors W. E. Borah. BOISE, Idaho, July 6. (Special.) About three weeks ago a committee was formed among a few of the supporters of W. E. Borah to poll the county to test the sen timent respecting his candidacy for the United States Senate. A pledge was cir culated by the canvassers for signatures pledging the signer to support the plan of having Mr. Borah indorsed by the state convention as the candidate for Senator. A report was made tonight to C. C. Cava nah, chairman of the committee, showing that the poll has been completed In all but one of the 26 precincts In the county. Believing that It is entirely unnecessary for merchants to utilize any portion of the sidewalk for the display of their goods and that the ordinance allowing 30 inches for this display surface is invalid, the street committee of the City Council last evening recommended the repeal of the law, and the favorable opinion of the Council for a repeal indicates that the sidewalks must be given up solely to pedestrians.
