Jen Yen Relates How Mah Sue
Was Slain.
LEE CHUNG IS THE ACCUSED
Ho and Two Other Chinese, It Is
Said, Are the Ones Who
Killed Leo Mick in
San Francisco.
Not only is Lee Chung charged with the
murder of Mah Sue, -whom he shot Mon
day night in this city, but he and Lin
CDUck and Yo Gom have been identified, by
prominent Chinese here as highbinders
who killed Lee Mick in San Francisco
some time ago. The two last men ar
rested are in the custody of the police,
accused of being Implicated in the taking
of Sue's life.
When Lin Duck and Yo Gom -were ar
dested late Tuesday afternoon, they had
concealed in their shoes and socks loaded
cartridges. Bach also possessed a revolver
of the heaviest caliber, fully loaded.
A Jury empaneled by Deputy Coroner
Arthur L. Flnley yesterday afternoon
listened to the evidence regarding the
murder of Mah Sue, and quickly returned
a verdict of "death by a gunshot wound,
inflicted by Lee Chung with murderous
intent."
Jen Yen, the woman who was with Mah
Sue when he was shot, and who was her
self stabbed by the assassin, was the only
Chinese witness called by Deputy District
Attorney Moser. She explained that while
she and Mah Sue were chatting in his
apartments, Lee Chung entered and de- i
manded $150. Upon being refused, she
swore, he drew a revolver and began
shooting. He fired two shots at Mah
-who fell dead in the doorway.
"I screamed for help," testified Jen Yen.
speaking through an interpreter, "and
then Lee Chung pointed his revolver at
my head. As ho pulled the trigger, I
struck his hand and when he fired the
bullet went past my head. I ran to the
adjoining room with Lee Chung in pur
suit, and he knocked me down and began
stabbing mc. He then ran down to Sec
ond street, and I followed him, crying
for help. Quong Gee joined in the chase
and they ran after the fleeing murderer
until he was stopped and placed under
arrest at First and Stark streets by
"Nlghtwatchman -Childress."
Jen Yen swore that on several occasions
Lee Chung and the two Chinese now
under arrest with him, called upon her
and also upon Mah Sue, demanding
money. They were repeatedly refused,
she said.
Watchman Childress was next called,
and told of capturing Lee Chung. Dr. Ray
Matson. who nerformed the autopsy on
the body of the murdered Chinese, sub
mitted the report upon which the verdict
of the Jury was based.
Mah Sue was prominent in Chinese
circles, and was well liked. He was a
member of the American-born society,
and by that organization will bo given a
flttlnir funeral and burial, perhaps this
afternoon. This has not yet been defi
nitely decided.
