FERRY TO BE ESTABLISHED
Manager Brink to Begin Work on
St. Johns Approach.
J. D. Brink, manager of the St Johns
Ferry Company, writes he will be in St.
Johns within the next two weeks and
jart work on the approaches to the ferry
landing; preparatory to establishing that
route.. On the St, Johns side the landing
will be at the foot of Pitaburg street,
near Jobes Mills, and on the west side
near the Claremont Tavern. At the start
Mr. Brink will operate a barge fitted up
with cabins for shelter of passengers, and
which can carry four vehicles.
After it Is ascertained what sort of a
raft is needed to take care of the traffic
the company will build a suitable boat,
but It Is estimated that it will take sev
eral nonths to determine this. In the
meantime Mr. Brink assures the people
of St. Johns that he will take care of all
the traffic that is offered. The ordinance
granting the franchise for the ferry com
pany has been drawn up and approved
both by the Council and the St. Johns
Ferry Company, and will be passed the
latter part of November, complying with
the 60-days" limit in the charter. The
owners know they have a good thing, and
have given the town valuable concessions.
Including free transportation of gravel
for improving the streets of St. Johns and
2'A per cent of the. gross income.
