He "Was Shown" How One Man Earned a Dollar A story is told of a well-known Portland legal light who was driving in the country on a hot day during the past Summer. He had missed lis road, when, after a vain search for the right one, he spied a colored man, apparently asleep hy the roadside. He woke him up and asked him if he could direct him homeward. The colored man, in place of telling him which way to go, indicated it by moving his foot the right way. Our lawyer friend looked at the man for a moment, and then said to him: "If you can show me a lazier move than that I will give you a dollar." The colored man oponed his eyes sleepily, rolled over on his side and said: "Please put it in my pocket. Boss." And he got the dollar. We don't "believe in lazi ness, and can tell our patrons how they can earn dollars even easier than the colored man got his. Come to the store today AND BE SHOWN some of the bargains told of on this page. According to the amount you buy you shall save, and "A penny or a dollar saved is a penny or a dollar earned. DOME BE SHOWN. We Will Show You A Unique Exhibit of Autumn Styles in Women's Fashionable Attire Today in Portland's Largest, Leading and Only Authoritative Style Store Grand Salons of Dress Second Ploor. . For years this store has been the recognized authority on fashion mnttors in all this section. Not confined to the Western Sldj5e alone, but our advice is asked and tastes consulted by the leading sfyle-makers of America. What Paquiu is to Paris, Altinan to ev York and Marshall Field to Chicago, this store is to Portland and her trading territory supreme authorit oij women's gar ments. This season's magnificent exposition of suits and coats will more than maintain the position we have held as LEADERS OF FASHION for more than a quarter century. We trust that Portland women interested in correct modes in dress will attend all the minor Openings"' held around town, which are the "curtain-raisers1'' to our great style shows that the' may the better appreciate the marvelous exhibit shown here. There is an air of sameness savoring of the commonplace that characterizes them all, as usual how different the style story told here! The great displays made here are revelations to shoppers and visiting storekeepers alike, when compared with the very ordinary ones elsewhere. Our representatives are home from New York and other Eastern style centers with all the informa tion that women of fashion want to guide them in the selection of a gown or wrap for the coming season 's wear. We know that Paquin has undertaken to restore the dress of the reign of the Empire Francis, another famous French modiste, introduces the short Empire coat Beer, a celebrated artiste authority on dress, a Parisian favorite at Fashion's court, is mak ing short boleros Do ucet, short skirts and Drecoll, jackets and the Louis XV style, with waistcoats of embroidery in old tapestry colors. And our own Mile. Schroeder, the most fa mous of all American modistes, combines charmingly all of the beauty of Parisian styles with the characteristic touch of American taste. This store is the.onty establishment west of Chicago .deemed worthy of representing the Schroeder garments, if you would hear the Jull style story or witness the splendid picture in its entirety, you MUST come here. And it costs no more to. come and be SURE of correct dress in selecting than it does to go elsewhere and take chances.
