TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED
DICK DE CORDOVA AND SEXTON
HIEATT IN TOILS.
Detectives Apprehend 3Ien Believed
to Have Picked Pockets of 31.
Roscnfcld at Marquam.
Suspected of having- picked the pocket
of Maurice Rosenfeld, of Chicago, and
of attoraptla? to extract a purse from the
pockot of Thomas W. Younger, mastcr
raechaalc of the Southern Pacific, at the
Marquam Theater Thursday night, Dick
Be Cordova and Sexton Hicatt were ar
rostod yesterday afternoon at Fourth and
Yamhill streets. While the two were hur
ryT from a saloon after mingling with
the crowd of departing passengers at the
Fourth-Street depot, they were stopped by
Detectives Carpenter and Reslng and ta
koR to police headquarters.
Hicatt and Dc Cordova attracted the at
tention of the detectives by persistently
crowding against passengers In their rush
for seats. Their actions have had a
stapptclous look for some time.
Mr. Brady, who, with his wife and
Mr. and Mrs. Younger, attended the Mar
qam Thursday night, and who prevented
a thief from robbing Younger, partially
MoRtlfted De Cordova last night as the
man he had shoved away from the In
tended victim. Mr. Brady was almost
positive that De Cordova is the man
wasted, although his wearing apparel is
slightly different from the clothes worn
fey him Thursday night. Both suspects
are held on a charge of vagrancy until
& thorough investigation can be made.
In the robbery at the Marquam Rosen
fold lost $350 and four railroad tickets to
St. Paul. Younger did not lose anything,
Although one of the men succeeded in
Setting his hand In his pocket.
LOST NEAR MOUNT HOOD
Portland Preachers Have Thrilling
Experience in Big "Woods.
Rev. Andrew Montgomery, pastor of the
Third Presbyterian Church, and Rev.
Hoary Marcotte, of the "Westminster
Proyaytorian Church, of Portland, during
their outing,, at Mount Hood, had an ex
perience in the timber at night which
they will not soon forget. Rev. Mont
gomery was already camped at Mount
Hood and his brother pastor was to come
on a certain day, walking 13 miles from
the end of the stage line to the camp.
The former was to meet him about two
miles from camp.
It was late in the evening when Dr.
Marcotte arrived, and with 13 miles of
a tramp ahead of him started out with
a vigorous stride, but darkness came be
fore he had covered much of his Journey.
It was not an ordinary darkness, but one
that covered the face of the earth with
a gloom that caused every stump and
tree to stand out in relief and assume
startling shapes, but Rev. Marcotte
walked on tho best he could, expecting
that he should soon meet Rev. Mont
gomery up the trail, but as he reeled off
the miles and the latter did not appear
he began to feel a little creepy, and to
look lor a tree in which to spend tho
night beyond the reach of wild beasts.
Rev. Montgomery left his end of the
13-mIIe stretch and walked two miles and
waited for Mr. Marcotte to come.
By the light of a match he observed
the time the latter was due had already
passed. He walked down the dim trail
two miles and waited, but Mr. Marcotte
did not appear. As he was about to turn
back he called out loudly twice, when,
to his relief, his friend answered, and
soon they were together. Then began tho
return trip to camp. The road winds
around in the green timber and brush.
Sometimes they were on tho road and
then would miss It again. Finally, after
missing and regaining the road at least
50 times "in the extreme darkness, they
arrived at camp at a late hour.
