12 THE MORNING OREGONIAN, TUESDAY, AUGUST 1905. : s 1 I WILLRUNTOTHEBAR Captain Scott Plans Novel Route for Telegraph. BOAT IS NOW RENOVATED Steamer Ieaves for Astoria Today , to Bring the Elks' Excursion to the Exposition Japanese Liners Resume Service. Thoroughly renovated and equipped in evary particular, the steamer Telegraph slid down the ways of the Portland Ship building Company yesterday at 1 P. M. On account of the extreme low water In the "Willamette, It was necessary to wait until 6 P. M. before she could be pulled from the cradle Into deep water. She then steamed to her dock at Oak street. At 10 A. M. today Inspectors Fuller and Edwards will Inspect her. At 2 P. M. she will start for ABtoria to carry the Elks' excursion from that city to the Exposition the following day. This will be .her Initial trip as an excursion steam er on the Columbia River and Captain U. B. Scott will again start in the excur sion business from this city. The cap tain, is very proud of. his boat and has taken many precautions for the safety and welfare of his patrons not required by the regulation. "When interviewed as to "where the boat would run, the captain was very reticent, but said ho would run her "wherever the people wanted to go." He pointed at her fine lines and her im mense steel frames and said "she is the strongest built stern-wheel steamer in the world; can travel in any water; Just the thing to take tourists doVn the Columbia, past Astoria and out almost to the bar, where they can get a glimpse of the Pa cific Ocean and all Its expanslveness." From others the information was gained that this was the -run that the captain has planned for so long. I SIGN OP PEACE. Japanese Jjiners Resume Service Be tween the Orient and America. SAX FRANCISCO, Aug. 14. The Toy Klscn Kalsha steamship line is about to resume business between here and the Orient. It has been officially announced that the sheamshlp America would leave Yokohama for this port oh or about Sep tember 15, and that from that time the regular sen-ice of this lino will be re sumed. The two other steamships be longing to this company, the Nippon and the Hongkong, will go Into service as soon as they can be put in condition. They have been out of commission for over a year. Shortly after the war between Russia and Japan broke out these three vessels were changed into auxiliary cruisers, and have since been in charge of the govern ment. Now they are once more turned back to the steamship company, "which will put them back into the passenger service. STEAMERS ARE FIXED. Violators of the Marino Jjaws Are Brought to Tim a. ABERDEEN, "Wash., Aug. 14. (Special.) Deputy Collector Fish, of Puget Sound, who is acting in the absence of J. H. Hood, has been bringing violators of the marine laws to time the past week and fines of $500 each have been imposed on tugs Thistle and Ranger and the steam ers Harbor Queen and Fleetwood. All have failed to fulfill the requirements re garding the life-saving apparatus. As the owners have agreed to comply -with the law, it is possible a recommendation will be made that the amount of the fines be reduced or remitted. The owners of the vessels have paid the respective amounts. Wrecked Tricolor Abandoned. SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 14. The Nor wegian collier Tricolor has been aban doned by the underwriters, as they find she is so logged among the rocks that it will bo Impossible to get any vessels alongside to help her. Captain John Met calf, Lloyd's surveyor, and James Mickey have returned from the place where she lies, and they report that she is lying on Buch a rocky bottom that it will be use less to make any attempt to save her. There will be no attempt made on the part of the underwriters to save any of the machinery owing to the rocky condi tion of the bottom of that vicinity and the uncertainty of the weather. The Tri color went ashore July 24. She is barely a year old yet. She cost about $300,000. "Wrecked in the North. SEATTLE. Aug. 14. The bark Coryphene has been wrecked in Northern waters by striking a reef 15 miles off Cape Prince of Wales. Advices received in Seattle are to the effect that the passengers and crew, numbering 30 persons, escaped in the small boats. Captain Woodin, of San Francisco, owner of the vessel, was a passenger -with his wife. They reached Nome on the ' steamer Corwin. The Coryphene sailed from Seattle early in June. Unable to Make Rapids. Captain O. F. Graves in charge of the launch Buster attempted yesterday to take it up the Columbia to Grant's Fer ry, about 20 miles above The Dalles. He found it impossible, however, to pass the rapids below the Locks, and was compelled to return to Portland. He ex pects now to ship the launch by rail and will load it at the O. R. & N. Company's incline. Steamship Reccoinro Floated. PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 14. The steam ship Reccoinre, Captain Jones, from New Orleans, which went ashore in the Dela ware River yesterday, was floated at high tide. The vessel arrived at her dock today. Marine Notes. A. Fay, of the steamer Toledo, returned to San Francisco this week. The Tottenham commenced loading lum ber at the Portland Mills yesterday.
