DEPRESSES STOCK PRICES 3 larked Shrinkage In the Dimensions of tho 3Iarkct Russian Out break Has Iiittlc Effect on the List. NEW YORE; June 23. Prices sest some ground oa the Stock Exchange and there was a shrinkage in the diaessions of the market, which had more to do- with gtvtug character to it than the redsottan of prices. The money market yielded some premoni tory symptoms of the preparation for the July cotUements. Call leans were reported light even while there was no marked ohaage la the rale, and there was a eoestderabte paying off on the part of borrowers on ea.il. This was evMeotty ha the expectation, that the borrowing tomorrow, which Is to carry over until Monday, might result In a Surry ia the mosey market. The rise In call loans to above 3 per cent before the dose eonm-med this better. Tho grave aspect of internal affairs la Rus sia and the outbreak of vtMeaee tat Odossa brought late renewed dlim;iaton the possible future demand en New York Mr gold. For eign Mock markets received tho sews wtth great placidity, the price of French rentes making a full recovery of the op suing de cline. London dteeouats yielded a fraction owing to the Immense Scat half-year settle ments and the price of gold receded la Lon don. There was little change In the leeal exchange rate. , The news from Odessa wvs of more tmm diate effect In the grain markets, owing to the choice of that point as a port for export wheat. The proepeot of as interrup tion of the ruppty of wheat by means of the ctaotng of that port tended as an lnftu enee. Bxttmates on wheat and corn received during the day were highly favorable. There was ata as early decline Is cotton. To day's news ta thus eeen to have supplied Influences favorxMe to higher prices for etocko. Later efforts toward recovery wore defeated hy the rise tn exit mouer rates. The market dosed easy at about the low eat of the day. so&aa were xregutar. Total rates, par value. I2.7SS.00a.
