THE MOKXTN'G OHEGOlSlAy, SATURDAY, JTJJfE 24, 1905. MEW LAND-FRAUD CHARGE B. H. Tallmadge Arrested for Opera tions in 2ew Mexico. BOSWELI N. M-, June 3. What is declared to be a parallel to the land .fraud prosecutions in Oregon and aContana has been started here by the arrest of Benjamin H- Tallxnadgre, of Chicago, of the C. L. Tallmadge South--western Land Company, on the charge of subornation of perjury. Tallmadge was taken before United States Com missioner Carl Snyder, and gave $5000 bond for his appearance. The "warrant was Issued by Commis sioner Snyder on complaint of Gros venor Clarkson, special agent for the Government, who has been working in this district several months. It is reliably reported that this Is merely the first of many prosecutions that are to be brought for alleged fraud in land entries and deals in this part of New Mexico. It is further stated that thousands of acres of land En the Tlch artesian belt of New Mex ico, the valuable land in the ter ritory, have been secured through fraudulent desert entries. This land, unimproved, sells at from $20 to $30 an acre. All of these cases are under Investigation. Mr. Tallmadge declares that all -his deals have been according to law, and that it will be so proven. DAILY 3EETEO ROLOG ICAL REPORT. PORTLAND, June 23. Maximum tempera ture. 68 dear.; minimum, 55.
