After Viewing the Country.
J. G. Woodworth. traffic manager of the
Northern Pacific, who has been traveling
over the Northwest territory of the com
pany for the past two weeks acquainting
himself anew with the conditions govern
ing his company's business, returned yes
terday afternoon to Portland for a short
visit, before leaving for his headquarters
at St PauL
A. D. Charlton, assistant general pas
senger agent of the Northern Pacific, also
returned from a trip to Seattle, in com
pany" with Mr. "Woodworth. S. G. Fulton,
wJio has been on the trip with the traffic
manager, was also one of the party.
J. B. Balrd, general freight agent of
the same company from St. Paul, and R.
T. Brltz. division freight agent from Se
attle, are also in the city.

Light rain fell this morning in Northwest
ern Oregon and along the Washington coast
and In Eastern Washington and Northern
Idaho. Elsewhere in the North Pacific fair
weather has prevailed.
It is warmer this evening in Eastern
Washington and Southwestern Idaho.
