All that Is left of the big; Government lumber contract will be shipped to Manila on the schooner J. TV. Clise. The Cllse came up the river yesterday afternoon, and "will spend 24 hours ,on the drydock before g-olng- to the mills to load. There is now 425,000 feet ready for ship ment. The first lot went out on the Aleo Brown, and the transport Buford also carried a big consignment for Manila. All this lumber will go to Fort "William Mc Xinley, the great Army post at Manila. It is probable that more lumber will be contracted lor by the Government at once, go that the Clise will take a. full load ecross the Pacific. She is a four-masted schooner, and will hold 1,000,000 feet. FIX) UK FOR THE BROWX MEN Dumbarton Takes Big Cargo From v Portland to Japanese Ports. A big cargo of flour will start today for Japan. "When the British steamship Dum barton leaves port there will be 56,050 bar rels on board. This is valued at $201,750. The Dumbarton has received her clearance papers for Yokohama, Kobe and Moji, and will probably leave early this morning. The vessel loaded the main part of her cargo at the Portland Flouring Mills, and Wednesday went to St. Johns to complete it. Owing to the war, this is the largest cargo to leave here for Oriental ports for a year. CHEHALIS IS LONG OVERDUE Simpson Dumber Company's Barken- tine Is Slow Coming From Ccbu. The barkentine Chehalis, owned by the Gimpson Lumber Company, of San Fran cisco, is overdue from Cebu. She is listed lor TVillapa Harbor, but will probably en ter the Columbia first. Not once has she been reported since leaving the Philippine port, and considerable anxiety is felt for her safety, as she is nearly a month be hind the usual time. Shipping men who know the waters she has passed say that it is probable she fell into a certain bight from which It would require a month to escape. Several other vessels have found the spot, to their sor row. Schooners to Be Cleaned. ABERDEEN, Wash., April 27. (Spe cial.) The schooner Wltzman was put on the marine railway today for a partial replanking, recaulking and cleaning. The schooner Watson West will follow the Wltzman to receive new masts. The West has just returned from the Orient. Marine Notes. Beginning today, the Columbia Con struction Company will deliver 2250 tons of rock a day at the Columbia River jetty. while J. J. Sweeney will deliver G50 tons daily. By arriving at Queenstown April 25, the British ship Glaucus has made the fast est passage of any of the January wheat fleet. She left here January 6, and con sumed 110 days on the voyage. The German ship Altair, from San Fran Cisco to Gravesend, one of the top-notch ers on the overdue list, has reached her destination. The passage required 175 days. The tank steamer Asuncion left up the river last night, and will reach here this morning with a load of fuel oil for the Standard Oil Company. The Warren Packing Company lias or dered a cannery-tender from O. P. Gra- ham. The launch will be driven by a ten-norsepower gasoline engine, and will cave a length of 40 feet.
