BARRY MET BURN
Fighters Dispute Over the
Right of Way.
TRAINERS PREVENT BATTLE
Sarcastic 'Bonmots Exchanged by the
Bruisers Came Near Resulting
in Fight Being Pulled Off
Before Scheduled Time.
TACOMA, Wash., April 26. (Special.)
The Burns-Barry fight, which is
scheduled for next Tuesday night, came
very near being settled this morning
when the principals met on the road
between the city and South Tacoma,
Both fighters were taking their regu
lar morning spin. Barry, who is
training in South Tacoma, was headed
toward the city, while Burns was go
ing In an opposite director. The fight
ers, with their trainers, met at a nar
row place on the bicycle path, and
neither side was disposed to make way
for the other. Burns claimed that
Barry should take one of the other
roads out of South Tacoma, and Barry
remarked that he would take "any old
road" he desired.
The real trouble was started when
Burns commented on the belt that
Barry was wearing. "Is that thing the
middleweight championship belt?"
asked Tommy. Dave replied that some
one was "getting fresh" and told
Tommy that if he didn't like the belt
he had better try to take it off. This
Burns proceeded to do, but before the
men got well started their respective
trainers stepped in and put an end to
the trouble by taking their charges
back to training quarters.
