LUCAS LOSES OUT
Baseball Promoter Now Plans
New League.
DUGDALE AIDS IN THE DEAL
Scheme to Wreck Pacific National
League Fails, but Attempt Will
Be Made to Start a Circuit of
Puget Sound Cities.
President TV. H. Lucas, of tlio Pacific
National League has lost another baseball
war. He Is out of that league and 16 trying
to start another Northwest circuit- Lucas
was supremo until Portland and Seattlo
had decided that Lucas was not in sym
pathy with those two cities, so the Seat
tle and Portland magnates took the hur
dles and Joined tho Pacilic Coast League.
This action brought about a costly war,
costly from financial standpoint, yet at
the same time it was the means of fur
nishing tho fans with better basebalL
When the war started President Lucas
gave it out that the Pacific National
League would win. He attempted to carry
out this statement by invading Califor
nia and placing an opposition team in
Seattle and in Portland. The local fans
refused to cross the river to sec Jack
Grim's team play and it was not long be
fore Portland was dropped, and for a
time it looked as if the Pacific National
League would collapse. It managed to
struggle through the season and when
it closed President Lucas gave it out that
the Pacific National Lcaguo was dead.
"Walter Wilmot, manager of Butto, and
President Williams, of Spokane, refused
to have the Pacific National League de
clared dead in spite of tho action of the
National Association, which at Lucas
solicitation declared the leaguo out of ex
istence. For months past Magnate Wil
liams and Wilmot have been engaged
In a hot war with Lucas, and recent dis
patches .scem to indlcato that Lucas is
onco more defeated. A dispatch from
Spokane says that President Lucas has
left the field clear to those who wish
to keep the Pacific National League alive.
Ho will continue with his original plan
of reviving a Northwest League, which
was the name of the league when Seattlo
and Portland wore members. Lucas was
granted permission to establish a new
league after it was declared that the
Pacific National Lcaguo was dead. Tho
threat on the part of Williams, Wilmot
and others to establish an outlaw league,
the following cities: Vancouver and Vic
toria, B. C, Bcllingham and Everett.
The Pacific National League will have
teams in tho cities of Spokane, Butte,
Salt Lake, Boise, Helena and Ogdcn.
Those who held the franchise of the
teams in those towns named refused to
surrender their leases to the grounds and
It was this undoubtedly that caused Lu
cas to surrender. Before the new leaguo
can get down to business it will be neces
sary to secure grounds and erect ball
parks. This will cost a great deal of
money.
It was rumored that D. E. Dugdale,
promient In the war of 1903, will have a
team in the Northwestern League. Dug
dale will either select Bellingham or
Victoria.
HOPE TO WIPE OUT DEFEAT
Multnomah Basket-Bail Team Will
Play Return Game With Dallas.
Tho first M. A. A. C basket-ball
team will meet the crack Dallas ag
gregation in a return game Friday
night. The game will be played on tho
local club floor and from the past
work of both teams it should be an
exceptionally fast one. In the last game
played at Dallas the club boys were
defeated by the close score of 14' to
10. They have been working up to
the limit in the recent practice work in
order to be able to wipe out that de
feat. Dallas brings with it the reputation
of being about the best team, in this
section. This aggregation recently de
feated the Corvallis boys, who have
leeii recognized as the snappiest lot
of players in the Valley.
The club will follow out the re
cently established rule of charging no
admission to tho game, and it is ex
pected that an unusually large crowd
of spectators will be in attendance.

I am compelled by a sense of gratitude
to tell you the great good your remedy
has done me in a case of Contagious Blood
Poison. Among other symptoms I was se
verely afflicted with Rheumatism, and got
almost past going. The disease got a firm
hold upon my system; my blood was thor
oughly poisoned with the virus. I lost in
weight, was run down, bad sore throat,
eruptions, splotches and other evidences
of the disease. I was truly in a bad shape
when I began the use of S. S. S., but the
persistent use of it brought me out of my
trouble safe and sound, and I have the
courage to publicly testify to the virtues of
your great blood remedy, S. S. S.f and to
recommend it to all blood-poisou suffer
ers, sincerely believing if it is taken ac
cording to directions, and given a fair
trial, it will thoroughly eliminate every
particle of the virus. James Curb an.
