"Cherokee Bill" for
a Guard
Former Scout and RouKb
Rider Hits Recommcadatloa of
.President Roosevelt.
"Cherokee Bill," E. S. Kincald, has ap
plied for a position in the Exposition
guard, on recommendation of President
Roosevelt. Kincald tyhs a Rough Rider,
and, partially on the Influence of the
President, received an appointment in the
Jefferson Guards at St. Louis. He wrote
to the management of the Lewis and
Clarlc Exposition, requesting a similar po
sition, and the application was placed on
file, as the question of a guard had not
been taken up at that time.
"Qherokee Bill" meanwhile, apparently
fearing that the application was perma
nently on file, wrote to President Roose
velt, who instructed his secretary to write
President Goode and recommend the
Rough Rider to him. The President ex
pressed confidence in hie old comrade,
and an attempt will be made to find a po
sition for him here at the Fair.
