BUILD TO COLUMBIA
ELECTRIC CARS MAY RUN FROM
CEDARVILLE TO WASHOUGAL.
Right of Way Has Been Secured by
O. W. P. Company RJver to
Be Crossed by Ferry.
Right of way has been secured for an
extension of the Oregon Water Power &
Railway Company from Cedarville, two
miles west of Gresham, to the Columbia
River opposite "Wasbougal, through Fair
view and Troutdale. A. L. Stone, of the
Falrvlew Civic Improvement Club, gives
this information, and further says assur
ances are given that the company will
build this season. This route was select
ed because of the easy grades between
the main line of the company to Estacada,
and it seems that little difficulty was met
with in securing the right of way. There
Is a natural gap between Cedarville and
Falrvlew.
This means when the branch is built
that a ferry will be put on the Columbia
River, connecting with Washougal on the
Washington side, and tapping a large
country.
When Mr. Morris, of the O. W. P. & R.
Co., drove over the route to Troutdale he
then said he would put on a ferry across
the Columbia River, If the road were
built
It has been the constant aim of the
Civic Improvement Club of Falrvlew to
point out the great advantage of securing
the traffic of the well-settled district sur
rounding Washougal. Gresham people
were also anxious that this branch line
should start from that thriving town, but
the grades of the Cedarville route won.
When this lino is built it will still leave
the ile'ld between Falrvlew and Monta
vllla and between Falrvlew and Wood
lawn yet to be built into. Mr. Stone says
of these: "I do not know what will be
done from Montaville east, but I am quite
cure that the Portland Consolidated will
build soon."
