Pressure of December Offerings Sends Dorm Chicago Prices. CHICAGO. Dec 22. The wheat market was rtrong-at the opening. May being up gc, to $1.114?1.12. Strength at Liverpool, resulting from a report of unfavorable harvest weather in Argentina, was the principal source of the initial firmness. For a time there was fairly active buying by commission-houses and bull traders. Shorts were urgent bidders for the December delivery, causing a sharp upturn In 'the price of "that month. May advanced to $1.12. Northwestern receipts were not quite satisfactory to the bulls. Although arrivals today at Minneapolis and Duluth were 96 car loads less than a year ago, the . total number was 112 more than last Thursday. In the Southwest, however, the situation "was favor able to the bulls, receipts today at St. Louis and Kansas City being only 70.000 bU3hrls. compared with 304.O0O butfhels the correspond ing day a year ago. As tnc session progrcswu. considerable pressure of December offerings developed, causing a reaction. Later In the day the decline In that delivery became quite pronounced, and In consquencc. distant fu. tures were materially affected. Realizing sales by rlt traders sent the price of May down to $1.11. Argentine exports for the week were estimated by a British crop expert at 1,200,000 bushels- Covering of December by shorts caused a firm tone In the corn market early In the day. May. closed at 45c. Tho feature of trading In oats was the buy ing of July by a local provision interest. May Thcjnarket for provisions was dull, and the tendency of prices was downward. At the close.
