When he was here two years ago he directed the production of his opera. "Manru." at the Metropolitan, Now York, and proved to the public that he was composer as well as plnanlst, although such fame had been well earned long before through his published works for piano and orchestra, and for voice as well. Nevertheless, the endurance of his fame was augmented by the production of "Manru," a great scholarly work. The concert tour that followed proved, how ever, that it is most as the artist, the pianist incomparable, rather than as com poser, that the public love him. It Is through the exalted art of his marvelous playing, the grandeur of the songs tho Instrument sings under the touch Ajt his hands, that he most appeals to the hearts of the people. "Upon this power will rest his fame," are prophetic words long ago spoken. Paderewski will be heard in this city in concert on Wednesday cening, Janu ary 4. 1005. at the Armory, direction of Calvin Heilig.
