show is given this year at the corner of
Third and Taylor streets. Poultry, pets
and other creatures arc there in abun

"he never combed his hair, bantams with

City, TV. M. Browning, or Ogden. and
Thomas Wilkinson, of Nanaimo, B. C,
were busy yesterday examining the

The display of Plymouth Rocks is par-tJ-alarly

DEVOTION OF A WIFE.
Mrs. W. H. Whorton Tolls Over Wash
tub to Pay Husband's Debt.
Over the washboard, in her humble home

"Whorton. Day after day, unceasingly
save for a few short hours of sleep, she
works on. Her object Is to save her hus
band from disgrace and she "trill accom
plish it. It is a story fraught with bit
terness, of a woman's undying devotion

In September W. H. Whorton disap
peared. With him, supposedly, went 5120,
belonging to the United Artisans, of which
-order he was the treasurer at the time,
ot until a few days ago did the wife as
certain anything of the whereabouts of
iher husband. She learned he had been ill
tn the Wayside Mission Hospital, at Se
attle. Now, Mrs. Whorton says, the shortage
-of her husband has been made good. She
borrowed $120 from personal friends, paid
it to the Artisans and holds a receipt
for It
So, over the washboard. In her humble
home, she works unceasingly to uphold
the name of the man of her choice, for
she declares he never stole the money,
v.but was robbed, and that he will bo home
Christmas to explain everything and begin
life anew.

net meeting today the action of the Agri
cultural Department in standardizing

WEATHER CONDITIONS.
A disturbance made Its appearance off the
Washington coast early this afternoon, and
storm southeast warnings were ordered at 1:80
P. M. on tho Strait of Fuca and at the mouth
of the Columbia River. At 5:40 P. M. they
were extended to Include all Pucet Sound sea
ports. During the last 12 hours light rain has
fallen along the Washington coast and at a
few places in the Interior of Washington. It
is cooler In Eastern Washington and Northern
Idaho, but elsewhere no marked change In
temperature has occurred.
The Indications are for rain or snow In this
district Wednesday, with high southerly winds.
