"WASHINGTON," Nov. 15. Prince Sada mura Fushlma, a near relative of the Em peror of Japan, "who has arrived in Wash ington as the guest of the Nation, called today gX the "White House and conveyed to the President the good -wishes and friendship of the Mikado, .and the tatter's hope for the President's continued good health and happiness. The Prince's ad dress, -which -was in Japanese and In terpreted by one of his suite, -was brief and bespoke closer and stronger relations between the two countries. The President in Ills response gave asearasoe of tM sentiment by the Americas people and wished the Japanese people prosperity. Shortly before 10 o'clock, Princa Fu shlma and his suite -were driven from the Arlington Hotel to the "White House. The Prince occupied the state carriage of the Japanese legation. Assistant Secretary Pelrce and Mr. Hioki rode with him. The suite consisted of A. Sato, grand master of the Prince's household; Count S. Terashlma, Major Mihara, Mr. Watan- abe, master of ceremonies of the Emperor; Dr. TC Bokku, physician to the Prince, and Mr. Sbosuka Matsuka, third secretary of the Japanese Legation, -who met the Prince at San Francisco. Prince Fushlma. was attired In the uni form of a Lieutenant-General of the Jap anese army. The other members of his. suite -wore uniforms of their grades in the army or the diplomatic corps. As the jcarriages of the party, headed by a platoon of mounted police, swept Into the porte cochere of the "White House, they were met by Colonel Charles S. Brom well, the military aide, and Captain Cam eron McR. "Winslow, the naval aide of President Roosevelt. Assistant Secretary Pelrce presented the Prince to. them, and the party then was conducted into the "White House. Meeting With Roosevelt. The Prince' and his suite were ushered into the Wueroom, where In a few minutes President Roosevelt, accompanied, by As sistant Secretary of State Francis B. Loo mis and Secretary Loeb, greeted them. The greeting between the President and Prince Fushlma was cordial. The presen tations were made by Mr. Pelrce. Prince Fushlma addressed the Presi dent In Japanese, his remarks being in terpreted by one of his suite. Ever since the Empire of Japan, at the invitation of this coun try, entered upon the career of modern and International progress, which has led to such brilliant results, the relations of the two countries have been those of un broken friendship I pray that those re lations may continue forever, growing al ways more friendly and more extended, and I trust that this visit of your Im perial highness may result In that increase of mutual good will between this Republic and the Empire of Japan-which will nat urally come from more intimate acquaint ance and wider knowledge of each other. "I beg you to convey to- His Majesty, the Emperor, my grateful appreciation o'f hi valued expressions of amity and my. best wishes for his health and happiness and the prosperity of the Japanese people-" The President and Prince Fushlma then chatted animatedly for ten minutes. Their conversation was conducted through an interpreter and related principally to Jap anese history and literature, with inci dental reference .to the Russo-Japanese -war, in which Prince Fushlma has played a conspicuous part. The Prince expressed himself as pleased and surprised at the knowledge tho President showed of these subjects. President Returns Call. The Prince and his party left the White House Tinder the escort of Mr. Pelrce and Colonel Symons. The President later re turned the call of Prince Fushlma, driving from the "White House to the Arlington Hotel in an open carriage, surrounded by bicycle policemen. Accompanying the President were his secretary, Mr. Loeb. and his military and naval aides. After the President left, the Prince took an automobile ride over the city, escort ed by Colonel Symons and Mr. Pelrce. At the White.
