The Peninsula Lumber Company is an incorporated company and the officers are asvfollowtt
President, Mr. C. Q Barker of the well known Barker ;& Stewart Co., and Tower Lumber Com
pany, "Wisconsin and Minnesota; Mr. H. C. Stewart, of the same firm, Vice-President; Mr. C. F.
Latimer, of the Ashland Lumber Company, Treasurer; Mr. R C. Knapp, of the Brewer-Knapp Com
pany, Secretary, and Local Manager Mr. J. W. Fowler, who resides at University Park.
The mills of the company are situated at University Park. All kinds of fir lumber are manufac
tured, including lath, railroad and mining timbers especially. This company purchased the Cone
property February last, and it has made many improvements in the way of new machinery and in
making the mill an up-to-date plant. At present the Alles-Chalmers No. 1, Pacific Coast edger and
dry kiln is being erected. The first of the year the company will be shape to furnish anything in the
way of fir, either finished or in timbers. It is the intention of the company to build another large mill
on the property at University Park, which will make it one of the best equipped plants on the Pacific
Coast. This company also caters to the retail trade in the vicinity of the mill, and is about to build
an elevated railroad, so as to get manufactured product on the river front to the level of the elevation
on Columbia boulevard, thus giving them facilities for handling lumber and fuel to better advantage
than at present.
