BIG DEMAND FOR HOUSES
Dwellings Worth ?GOO to $1000 Are
Eagerly Purchased.
"There is a strong demand for houses
of moderate cost, just now," said a real
estate dealer yesterday. "Dwellings worth
5S00 to $1000 are wanted by many people.
For this money, very comfortable dwel
lings can be built in the suburbs.
"So great Is the demand that dealers
can realize 40 per cent on their invest
ments by erecting such houses in the
outskirts of the city and selling them.
On a lot worth ?200 a good house can be
built at a cost of $600 to JS00. and the
property can be sold at prices between
51000 and $1400. The buyers pay $15 or $20
per month and G or 8 per cent interest.
"There is strong demand also for fine
house, although of course the number of
people who want them Is not sp large as
of those who desire moderate-priced
dwellings. All this shows the rapid growth
of the city. Many people are coming
here from the Eastern States, and there
are Inquiries for houses by immigrants
every day."
