IN HONOR OP BURNS.
Many Scotchmen Gather at the Cale
donian Concert.
here "were so many kilted Highlanders
and great chunks of Doric in evidence
last night at the Caledonians' concert at
Arlon Hall that one might have mistaken
the neighborhood for a bit of Scotland.
The hall was filled by an enthusiastic
crowd of Scotch, Irish and Americans,
but, on account of delay In the arrival
cf some of the musicians, the concert
was onthalf hour late In starting. But
the atmosphere suddenly changed when a
piper came on the stage and gave a pierc
ing olo which only a people raised on
oatmeal can fully appreciate. Chief Cam
eron gave the address of welcome, antl
laughingly stated that the reason some
of the performers were so late in coming
was "because they wished to consign to
obllyion the, long address he had prepared.
The programme was then proceeded
with, after two or three changes had
been made. Madam D'Albertl and "Miss
Elizabeth Hoben were special favorites,
the former singing "My Hame Is Where
the Heather Grows," and then giving an
encore. Miss Hobcn's work was charac
terized by fine tone, and restful light
and shade in phrasing. For hex encore
she sang "Comln Thro' the Rye." 'An
other enjoyable number was a duet, "The
Crooklt Bawbee." sung by K. Dilfln and
Miss Duncan. ,
Rev. Dr. A. A. Morrison gave a short,
witty" address. He began:
"The Scotch are the greatest race of
people on the face of the earth. There
are not many of them for the same rea
son that God made gold more valuable
than tin. I was not born in Scotland, but
among good fellows for all that. In Dub
lin. My parentajge is Scotch, and I re
ceived part of my education in Scotland."
Dr. Morrison then gave an estimate of
Burns ?is a poet.
The dance that followed was enjoyable,
and there were 15 numbers.
