LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE.
Settlement "VVa Effected Mtich More
Easily Than Expected.
LONDOX, Jan. 30. The stoak market
managed to get through the settlement
tcjotz comfortably than had been expect
ed. While more time than usual was re
quired to arrange the heavy accounts, tew
had b"leved that the number of defaults
would be eo few.
Prices were very Irregular. Consols
closed at 964, this being lower than they
liad been since 192. Americans were un
settled and distinctly lower, owing to re
alizations, but they closed above the worst
figures. St. Paul and Denver preferred fell
1 pclnt, Northern Pacific and Southern
Pacific . Union Pacific rose 94 and
Heading lsts $. Mines showed signs of
recovery Saturday.
Basilicas Stagnant on Berlin Bonne.
BERUX, Jan. 20. Business on the
hours during the week was stagnant,
but prices were firmer. Outsiders show
less inclination to sell shares, and the
volume of business has sunk to low pro
proportions. Domestic loans are strong. The Bavar
ian loan was a great success, and lower
subscriptions .have been so heavy that the
allotments will be of the smallest amount.
