WEATHER CONDITIONS.
Moderately heavy rains fell Monday forenoon
In the Willamette Valley, but the rains have
now erased, and the weather Is clearing. The
Indications are for a start spell of fair weath
er In the North Pacific States, with slightly
lower temperatures.
THE RIVER.
The. following reports were received from up
river points at c P. M.:
Albany 24.6 feet, rise 3.6 feet t'.nce 8A.il.
Salem 24.0 feet, risk 2.2 feet since 10 A. M.
remand 18.7 feet, rtt 2.0 Jeet since 8 A.M.
Engen 17.-4 foot, fall 1.0 foot since S A. M.
The river at Portland will probably reaoh a
Mac 9 of 17-8 feet by Tuesday morning, and the
maximum height will be about 18 feet, and be
reached Tuenday afternoon.

decision in the case of the Rochester
Brewing Company vs. the United States,
Involving the taxing of a proprietary

tained the complainant's contontion that
the article was not subject to taxation.
