THE M0KN1NG OREGOmAN,- SATUDAT, NOVEMBER 3,-1900. U AGED 123 YEARS.- Xcgro, Said to Have Dera Washing ton's Slave, Died la Poorhouse. KSW STORK, NOV. 2. George Washing ton Freeman Horner Green, a former ne gro il&ve, died In the Alms Hospital, at Hempstead, L. I., yesterday, at the re puted age. of 123 years. Green Is said to have been born on a farm near Ellxa bethport. X. J., on January 1, 1717. He Traa sold to a Virginia planter named Homer, by whom. It Is said, "he ttzlb sold to General Washington. In 1S12 he was made a free man, and then came North and was employed by George's Green, a Xong Island farmer, with whom he re mained for 40 years. Green's faculties remained unimpaired until 16 years ago, when hla sight and heading began to fall, and he entered the poorhouee, where he had lived ever since. He used both whisky and tobacco, but Is said never to have shown any bad effects from either. He was married several times, and is eald to have been the father of 27 children, most of whom are dead. The following maximum wind velocities were reported this morula: Portland. 42 miles, south; Astoria, 33. south; Victoria, 48, southeast, and Port Crescent. 40. southwest. Moderately heavy rains have fallen In Western Oregon, Washington. Northern Idaho and Mon tana. It Is much warmer In Southern Idaho, Nevada and Utah, but elsewhere the changes in temperature have been small and unimport ant. The Indication are for a short, tempo rary spell of fair weather over the northern portion of this district Saturday. WEATHER FORECASTS.
