East Slders an the McKenzle.
"The Boxers," a party of young men
from the East Side, who left for Belk
rap Springs, on the McKenzle River, Au
gust 5, report a general good time and
come very good sport. Those In the
party are: Douglas Love, Edward Brlgam.

Georxre O. Brandenburg, of Portland, and
C E. Maxon. of Harrlsburg. "The Box
ers" left Harrlsburg by team and were
two and a half days on the trip to the
srrlngs, a distance of 75 miles. They had
very good sport on the road. Dr. Rob
erts killfd a deer about 25 miles from
the springs. Brandenburg and Brlgam
caught 210 trout, and the party feasted
on venison steaks and red sides on the
way In. On the 16th the Portlanders loft
the springs for a four days' trip up
tho river to the McKenzie Falls. It was a
hard trip along a biased trail, but they
were amply repaid for their trouble. The
falls are about 29 miles from the springs,
and are about 59 feet in height. Below
Is a large basin, 209 feet in diameter,
which fairly teems with the speckled
beauties. An ordinary hook was of no
more good than a pin, as the gamy fish
would snap them off In a twinkling. How
ever, the boys succeeded In bringing back
to camp 75 pounds of dressed fish. There
are about 125 campers at Belknap Springs.
Among; them are several people from the
metropolis. This is an Ideal place for
an outing, as there are a great many
deer in the mountains, and the river fair
ly teems with trout. One of the campers
caught an elght-ponnd Dolly "Varden trout
Saturday which measured 27 Inches. Brlg
am, Love and Brandenburg caught 370
trout in Lost Lake last week in four
hours1 fishing.
At Mount Tabor.
The contractor for tbe completion of
the two upper rooms in the Glencoe
schbolhouse. in Mount Tabor District No.
6, has the first coat on. and will soon
finish up the work. This will provide
four good rooms In that building, ot
whlh three will be used in tbe coming
term. It was considered best to com
plete the entire structure and have done
with It at once The other room will be
required within another year, anyway.
No general repairs will be required in the
main echoolhouse on "West avenue apd
the Base Line road, as it was thoroughly
overhauled last year. The district is hav
ing 60 cords of wood delivered, which
tilll be stored away in the basement. The
schools will open In this district at the
same time that the city schools bcin.
A fine large dwelling is under construc
tion at Mount Tabor for Lawyer Piatt.
It is nearlng completion. It will cost
about $5000, and will be one of the finest
erected at Mount Tabor. The residence

Prettyman has sold oft some .ground to
parties who will build this year. J. C.
Moreland and family have moved from
their former home at Mount Tabor to the
city, and the new owner, E. E. Lyttle. is
having it thoroughly overhauled.

Miss Camella Hunter, of Mount Tabor,
has returned home from Long Beach.
Dr. and Mrs. C T. Prehn, residing at

W. W. Bretherton and family have re
turned to their home at 4G5 East Twenty
sixth street, near Division.
Mrs. TV. H. Feagan, residing at the
corner of East Seventeenth and Belmont
streets, will return home from Seaside

Charles Sager has sold his property at
Mount Tabor to William Roof, who will
make improvements. Mr. Sager win make
his future home at Taqulna.
Mrs. LouIpr Yorgina died at her home
at 40 Michigan avenue. Albina, yester
day She was 59 years and 9 months
o'.d. The funeral will take place today at
Lone Fir Cemetery.

The barometer has fallen quite rapidly over
the Pacific Northwest, and ceneral rains have
occurred In the northern part of Oregon and
in Washington and Idaho. It is also much

eral, have not been heavy, ranging; from a
trace at Pocatello to 0.32 of an Inch at As
toria. The Indications are for cloudy and
threatening weather, with rain, in this district
