Tmi mtk ned neak of the continent vies with it in attractive features. It is ahout 6o miles cast of Portland
rlili and is the iirst natural feature of great attraetioii that demands- the recognition of all visitors to Ore
gon's metropolis. The rqutc from To.rtland to the base of Mount Hood leads through a bcautuui and
thickly settled section of fanning and timbered country. Tills route offers noobstriiction to the easy and
cheap construction of a line of electric or steam railroad. The building of this road would afford- easy and
rapid transit from Portland to Mount Hood a matter ofthe greatest importance to Portland's renown
and supremacy of the city's best interests. Mount Hood, with its great-glaciers, the sylvan retreats at
! its base, and the grandeur of its higher elevations, "lyillln time become oncof the best-known snow-capped
mountains of the world. "" "
