Lock and Basin Com pany A company hat filed article of incor poration, for the purpose of " constructing a canal, litcka and liailn at tlio falls of the Wil lamette river, on the writ eiile of said river, opposite the tow in uf Oregon City and L'ane mail, for the parpoiw of passing all boat or vessels, with their freights, irrigating said Willamette river," eto., etc The capital stock is $1)00.000, divided Into lix hundred shores of $500 each. Place of business, Linn City. The works will replace those destroyed some years ago by fire and flood. The incorporators are, John D. Dement, D. P. Thompson and A. L. Lovejoy. We suppose the object of the incor poration is to head off the P. T. Company in their supiosed effort to secure a monopoly of tlietratisportaliun of the river; and as the in corporators are the parties chiefly interested in the Oregon City Railroad, wo take this rather more as a confession that the old railroad can not compi te with the uew works of the P. T. Company. The la't move is in the right direc tion. A work that can pass boali with their cargoes undisturbed around the falls, will cost much money, but when built, it will supersede all the railroads, inclined planes and other fix tures. Tup Bra Flbkcb. Everybody at the State Fair saw, and everybody else has heard of, the three-year old fleece on the Patterson sheep, exhibited at the Stato Fair. The sheep was sheared Inst week at Albany, and the fleece weighed tevcnty-ievcn and one-half pounds. This is more than twenty pounds heavier than Mr. Patterson expected ; and we have heard , several breeders here express their opinion that the fleece must have been four years old. From the Spasiieli nnd French buck sold to Mr. Payne there was clipped, at the same time, a fleece which weighed thirty-six pounds, being a fleece of sixteen months' growth. Tjib Blue Lead. This is a new dieoovery, on Gold creek of t ho North Fork Of Bantiam. The lead is some fifteen feet wide, well defined, and shows gold and silver from the very start, the cropping" assaying at the rate of fifteen dollars per tnn. Hie ore is a dark blue color (hence ita name) and appears very rich, even to the nuked eye. If it continues to improve, it will be one of the best minesin the Cascades. Work ia now prosecuted on H. Hand-Book or the Santiam. Mr. John Arnoup. who has been exploring aud prospect ing in the Cascades, proposes to publish a "Hand bonk" of the Santiam mines. From our acquaintance with Mr. Arnaup, we are confident that the book will be a valuable ad vertisement of the mines mentioned, as well as of the mineral resouroes of the State, and we hope too see him liberally encouraged by all those Interested. Our neighbors over the lino lit Walla Walla have missed their usual term of the Circuit Court, and are in a very had way iihnut it. Some of them propose aiiuexatinn to Oregon, while otl) ins oppose the measure, setting up, among ether objections, that they would have lo pay their taxes in coin, in Oregon. Another writer in the Walla Walla Stateiman intends that ther will have a new state East of the Casoadus, and that the Capital will be at Walla Walla. He says i We are surrounded on all sidus (except the rainy one) by a niouutaniou mineral region tributary to this valley. This mineral region is intersperoed with small valleys, which are being filled, by the annual ettiigratinn from the States willi aa iudttstriuus population. 1 bis population must Have a government, and that government must have a centre, a metrop olis. A. II. Hose, of Amador city, baa sold the keystouo Mill and mine to a San Francisco company for the sum of one hundred and two thousand dollars. The' Nevada Gazette ll informed that the negotiations for the sale of the Eureka quartz edge better known as lite bmporor ledge at Grass Valley, have been concluded. The sum paid aud to be paid is $4110.000. Messrs. William and Kituert Watt are the purchasers of a quarter Interest, the remainder being ta ken by Snn Francisco men. Of the purchase mnner $100,0(10 was paid down, and another $100,000 is to be paid in a few days. Two AtirtlouLTURAL PAPERS. We are sorry to see tlmt our Oregon friends are Dot en tirely united in their efforts to establish an ag ricultural paper. The Statesman Job Office has issued a prospectus fur the Agriculturiif, and Mr. E.' M. Waite for the Oregon Plow man. One good paper devoted to the agrioul tural interests of this part of the const is a real necessity. From what we know of the gentle men connected with both these enterprises, either would succeed alone ; hut i seems to us they will mutually interfere with each other's prosperity, and cannot both succeed. Meu wait to see both before thev take either. and then so divide their patronage that one or both will fail, or what in the end amounts to tile same thing, be published at n ruinous loss.
