well, of Vermont, which we have been permitted to
examine, we glean that the bitter gentleman has paid
1400 for tour ewes, $:)000 for ten ewes, and (15110 for
three others, in commencing a small flock of select
stock. We believe that Mr. Rockwell brought a Kite
. Hock of sheep to this State some years since, and that
. he is acquainted with tnnny of our wool-growers. His
statements will be interesting.
' New Hotel. Mr. J. L. Smith la now putting np a
, vary fine Hotel building on the site of the old Man
sion House. The building will be three stories high,
seventy-eight feet front, and fifty feet deep, and will
, contain about eighty rooms. If finished as designed,
it will be quite a showy building, and add hirgely to
u she hotel accommodations in Halem. ,

in tbis issue, we observe that the Ellendale Company
will complete ita organization next month, by which
time it Is expected the Factory will commence busi
ness. The Factory is located at Nesmilb's old Mills
' on tbe Rickrcnll, about three miles uhove Dallas. The
Company will be managed by gentlemen of experi
ence in tiie bueiuess, with plenty of means to insure
its success.

The Presbyterians have purchased the Corvallis
College, and intend establishing a first -class Academy

ple of the North are beginning to appear in
forms which ought to elicit corresponding feel

sion in supplying all the destitute among us
with food, certainly does not savor of a spirit
of hatred and revenge. We have heard of
various expressions of good feeling, from many
Northern communities, which will be speedily
manifested, we are sure, in more substantial
terms tlian mere words.
Whon contrasted with the reckless spirit of
destruction aud disregard of private rights and
property exhibited by the leaders of disunion,
even to the very hour of their final flight from
Virginia, those developments of kindness and
sympathy from those who were lately reckoned
as enemies of the South, will not fail to work
a change in many minds.
We earnestly exhort the people of the South
to dismiss rancor from their hearts, to believe
what is undoubtedly truo, that their brethren
of the North desire to lire wilh them in the
bonds of peaoe, and to cultivate a spirit of con
ciliation and forboaranoo whioh will soon bear
