Ill the politics of this State, he is com paratively a new mail, and therefore not liable tn the objection of having been mixed tip In this or that measure, by which prejudices of section or association may have been engendered. Ills po litical standing is indopundent and beyond the reach of ananult, while on tlio question which is most vital the means to hu used fur the preserv ation of the Union hit is iiirciil)jr sound. His loyalty Is uncolidilionnl and uncompromisiiiK The imprests of Oregon, and, so far as they may be intrusted to him, the interests of the nation, may bn confided to him with every possible assur ance that the trust w ill bo faithfully kept. 1 Mr. Henderson wns born In "Virplniii, reared in Kentucky, and has now long been a rosident of Oregon. His record hits always been Unit of a pure patriot and a steady friend of his Onvcrn moiit, As our representative in Congress if he lives, he will be our next one ho may be trusted to Britain and continue that record, without stain or blot. We look upon the nomination of Mr. Henderson its a very fortunate one for the Union party of Oregon, hihI for tlio right solution of those questions of national import, upon which he is dustined tn act. In all liuinun probability, hn will be called upon to engage personally in the settlement of ninny ijiiestloiis Involving the fu ture existence of tlio government ns a republic To that responsibility he will bring tlio experience of a life rpeut In intelligent observation mid stady, hacked by an integrity of purpo.c that cannot, we believe, be swayed by fear, favor, or passion. That is the estimate placed upon our nominee, fur Congrens, by those who most Inti mately know him. Tbitlie will be triumphantly elected, admits of no reasonable doubt. Your delegates to the Union Hint Convention have performed their duty, and left the weal or woe of the Htatn in your hands. The action you tnko on the (till day of June next will affect tho interests of this coast, possibly, longer thn.ii any of you will live. Whether Oregon shall assist in sustaining the (lovernment founded in tho blood and sacrifice of our Revolutionary fathers, or in razing It to the ground at the dictation of the slave oligarchy, the legitimate offspring of tho go nitis of tyranny, rosts now with you to decide. If yon elect the Union candidates, and thus de clare that the Union must be preserved, you will have answered, as frcomon should, the demand which the, voice of tho living and the dead patri ots of tho nation mako upon you. If you suffer tho enemies of the Oovernmont aud the allies of tronson to triumph, you will have surrendered the bequest of good and wiso institutions Into tbs hands of the worst enemies of the human race. The election of tho Union candidates will bean emphatic endorsement of those mon who hnvo rallied to the roscuo of our beloved Union, in the public councils, and lu the tent and fluid, where love of country triumphs over the terrors of battle, carnage, and terrible death. The election of a copperhead ticket will be taken as a sign that the people of Oregon sympathize with the rebellion and hope for the success of armed traitors who aro striving with tho energy of devilish frenzy to blot out from existence the proud fabric of republicanism, which for three quarters of a century has been tho admiration of all good men of the world, Tn view of the disastrous consequences which It Is evident must result from the success of the scheme to disintegrate the Union, it is lnconceiv able how an American who has any spark of pa- riotism left alive, can so demean himself as to give even Indirect encourngmctit to the rebellion. That the rebels look with anxiety for the success of the to-called democrats in the next Presidential election, as their only hope fur recognition and toparnto nationality, Is amply proved by their own statements. That they recognize tho copper heads nf the North as their natural allies who arc doing their work for them, is established beyond denial, by the same evidence. That they encour age such democrats in their opposition to the gov ernment for tho purpnso of taking in return the advantages which they clearly see must result from it, is also patent, and proved by rebel tes timony. That in nil practical nnd essential con sequences tin) rebels and copperheads are In mil' tual sympathy, requires no proof beyond the conclusions of common sense. Kvery man, therefore, who honestly lays claim to tho character of a loyal citizen, to he consist ent with that pretension, must refuso utterly to consort with those who are recognized by rebels ns their friends. Tho close relationship of mod' cru democracy with treason is so conclusively established that reason cannot deny it nor decep tion hide It. To oppose the Administration In its measures tn crush the rebellion, is to do that much to help the foul conspiracy against the Union ; tn help the rebellion is treason. Let all mon Inko that as the verdict of all the republican world. The Union men of Oregon must bo alive to the fact that tho strength of the State may bo of great value to either side, in this stupendous struggle. Her representation in Congress, on any question of legislation, will be equal to any one man from the largest Statu of the Union ; should tho elec tion of a President go to the House of Rcpreseu. tntives, his voice will be equal to the entiro ropro scutntiou of any State. In this rospect, the elec tion of a Cnngrossinau from Oregon possesses at much importance in a national point of view as the election of all tho Representatives of the Statoof New York. With the responsibility which voters can toe thus rests upon them, will they not be false to the Government if they do not nse every honest en deavor to secure the electinn of a Union rcpro- sentativnf This questinn liter nmst 'i'gt' r at . .. ... . ,u a majority for thu entire Union tickets utoro over. whelming than ever given by any party in Or cgon. for Congressman and Mate Printer we predict a majority of lUOU votes s for Presidential Ulectors, more than that.
