A new comet was discov ered on the Hill November, at Marseilles, by M. Tempel. Ho describes it aa teleecopic, its j position being right ascension 9 dog. 5 J min. 44 aeo., and declination 34 deg. 7 min. In the course of an hour it increased a little both in , right ascension and declination, so that it secrue , tn he moving in a northwesterly direction. There waa a charm in the name, and "a greater charm In the principlea ' and reputation of the party. It waa horn of Thoa, Jefferson, grew with a rapidity mid solid atrength never before attained by any pn litical party in time of peace, and lived a life of many yeara worthy of the honor that history will bestow. But that waa when the partv waa . under the leadership of men df national repute, enlarged viewa ef domestic and foreign policy, pure lives and honest heads and hearts. When men of different characters, demagogues, trick aters, and mere politicians, came tn move and govern the political notion of the pnrty, the democracy began to degenerate and thus, from a national party of hoiiornliht repute, it became a mere machine to work nut tho rchemea of designing, bnd men. During tho adminis tration of Buchanan, the lufaiiioiia derigus of the leaders became ao nmnilV-jt, and the ruin they were Intent upon working, so pulpahle, that nearly all the honest democracy took leave of their companionship. Tho leaders still claimed the name "democrat" for their chin and aa audi brought about the rebellion. The men of the North, who were vennl enough to cling to the organisation, after becoming aware of the purpneee of the parly, are now the cop ptrheada and eeceaaiou aympathiiera.
