Sec. 1. Beit enacted by the Legislative As

poll shall be opened at the annual election
to De deld on the first Monday of June next,
tor me reception of votes for or ajrainst
Lonventron; also for the election of
Delegates to form a constitution for a State
Uoverninent as hereinafter provided.

- Sec. 3. It shall be the duty of the and

books for each precinct in their county two
columns, one headed for convention and one
headed against convention, and it shall be
the duty of the judjres of election for the
several precincts to ask each and every vo

by the clerks on the poll-books.
Sec 4. The votes for or asrainst conven
tion shall be taken certified, and canvassed
in the same manner and under like regula
tions as by law is provided for the vote for

Sec. 5. That it shall be the duty of the
Secretary of the Territory on or before the
second Monday in July, xo make out an ab
stract of the votes for or atrainst conven
tion, tosether with a certificate of the final
result of the whole vote cast, and cause the

Sec. 6. That the election of Delegates
. to the convention shall be conducted, held
canvassed and certified in the same manner
nd under like regulations as elections for
members of the Legislative Assembly.
Sec. 1. Each county shall be entitled
to elect the following number of Delegates,
0-wit ; Clatsop, one, ( 1 ) Columbia, one)

Multnomah, one jointly, (1) Clackamas,
.five, (5) Yamhill, four, (O Marion, seven,
(T) Linn, six, (6) Lane, six, (6) Umpqua,
two, (2) Douglas, fonr, (4) Coos, one, (1)
HJihtv, one, ( 1 ) Josephine, two, (2) Jaek
on, fonr, (4) Benton, four, 4 Tolk, three,
.3 Polk ami Tillamook, jointly, one, (1).
Sec. 8. That the consitation herein pro
vided for before taking effect shall be snb
nuitted for adoption or rejection to a vote of
the fliiallified voters within the boundaries'
of the proposed State. Such vote to be ta
5ken in l:ke manner and in conformity to
the 1.18 of this Territory regulating elec
tions at such time as said convention may
designate.
Sec -9. The Delegates to said conven
tion shall be allowed such compensation as
.Khali be hereafter appropriated by Congress
for snch payment.
Sec JO. This act shall take effect from
fthe time of its passage.

Statistics of Shame is ew York.
-IV complete census is being taken of the
bowses of ill-fame in the city. The under
taking has lieen entrusted to the officers of
rthe Police Department in whose beats these
houses of shame exist. The report will in
tdude the name, age, place of nativity, and,
.if alien, the reasons of immigration, with
the date of arrival here, with all accounts
of moneys provided for scch immigration
It will state the ability or inability to write
:and read, the social state and nomber of
children, with their position as to civil
irights; the length rf time since which the
respondent has lived her present mode of
tlife, the cause of adopting it, the calling the
narty previonsly followed, whether her pa
pents are or were addicted to the use of in-
itoxicafing Iiqnors, and much other informa-
ition of the sort.
Thus far but little trouble has been expc
rienced in obtaining; answers to the various
questions. Several parties that have been
examined have been fonnd to be pure and
lonest, although living in the immediate
Ticinity of so much vie as induced th be
lief that thev, too, were of the number of
(the fallen. Several instances of this kind
hare been discovered.
A young man with a ring on his fingrr,
-employed in the Boston Post Office, jumped
down from a box and accidentally caught
the rinff on a hook, and the whole weight
of his body being suspended by one finger,
the finger was torn from the hand and fell
upon the floor.
