PROSPECTUS
OF THE
NATIONAL REPUBLICAN.
Wasiiinciton, D. C, July 1, ls,'l.
Tho undersigned commenced, in the month of Decern
ber last, the publication, in this city, of a weekly newspa
per, called the AtUial AVnWvm.
It is printed on a largo sheet, twenty-seven by forty-two
inches, and is furnished at the low prices stated below.
It will contain all the original matter of the daily Action
al RrpMican, with the exception of loca news not inter
esting to country subsciibers. It will give full reports ol
the proceedings of Congress, and of the other departincnts
of the national Government. It will contain all the news
of the day. foreign and domestic, markets, etc., as well
original correspondence from all parts of the country.
The miscellaneous department will receive special "",,",n
nd in all respects, the effort will bo made to establish the
character of tl.e Aotiom.l Rhtiom as a Family Newspa
nor. Washington being now the central point of the cur
reutlmilitarv operations great attention will bo , paid o
furnishing the readers of the Aatwn.tl R,fMvn with full,
nd especially with tuvurats, accounts of the progress ol
the war for tiio Union. . . .
In politics, the paper will be Ropnhlican, sustaining the
Administration of Mr. Lincoln, but disclaiming, however,
any pretention to be the organ of the President. There is
no Republican paper in the District of Columbia, or in the
vicinity ol it, and it is believed that recent events have
opened to such a paper an important sphere of useful clloi-t.
The time has come, when the actual administration of the
Government upon Republican principles will explode the
misrepresentations which have made those principles so
distasteful to the South. Hut it is not only here, and in
this vicinitv, that the projectors ol the Aatwmil AmiMmvm
hope to make it useful. To tho whole country they otter a
lournal which will discuss national politics from a national
standpoint, and which will never be swerved from patriotic
duty by any overpowering pressure of local interest.
