Elaborate clustors of electric lights,
representing the final touches to tho
Bridge of Nntlons at tho Lewis and
Clark Exposition, nro now being plac
ed in position.
A largo tower Is being erected over
Guild's lake at tho Lewis and Clark
Exposition. Upon this will bo placed
a searchlight, tho rays of which will
bo cast about tho grounds at night and
greatly enhanco the lighting features
of tho centennial.
Tho famous Boston-Montana band of
35 pieces, composed entirely of under
ground miners from Butte, Mont, will
attend tho Lewis and Clark Exposi
tion. Tho band was organised twenty
years ago and ranks with tho bent mu
ulcal organisations of tho country.
Two men who will participate In the
rock-drilling contests at tho Lewis and
Clark Exposition enjoy envlablo rec
ords. In fifteen minutes this team
drilled through 37 inches of bard,
tough granite. Tho men aro husky
minora from the Oallce district in
Southern Oregon.
Tho Itinerary of the Mlsslourl Val
ley Medical excursion to tho American
Modlcal Association convention In
Portland, during tho Lewis and Clark
Exposition, has been decided upon,

A featuro of tho Oriental displays at
tho Lewis and Clark Exposition will
bo a largo sandalwood templo, which

St. Louis Exposition and attracted

tho centennial within another week.

Sergoant George 8. Thompson, who
was lately promoted to second lieu
tenant In tho regular army of the Unit
ed States, was in tho city last week
on a visit to his sister. The colored
pcoplo of Chicago gava him a royal
welcome. Sergeant Thompson Is a
bravo soldier' and has won several
medala for bravory In tho war. Ho has
boon In tho United States army for
twenty years, and has a splendid rec
ord. President Roosovelt Is to bo con
gratulated for promoting him to a lieu
tenacy In tho army.
Mr. F. Webster Brown of 1814
Dearborn street, has been elected a
delegate to attond the great fraternal
congress of colored organizations that
will meet In Washington, D. C. Sep
tember 21st. 1905. Thero will probab
ly be twenty colored delegates from
the state of Illinois. Each national
