One of the college presidents thinks

The study of the infinitesimal is pro

A publication devoted to suggestive

peoplo actually think themselves to
death every year by allowing their
minds to dwell on morbid subjects. It
would bo moro accurate to say that
these persons worry thomsolves to
death. It Is not thinking. To think
would be to fortify tho mind against
morbidity. There seems to be no doubt
that unreasoning and unreasonable
worry has n distinct and pernicious
effect on mind and body. That It Is
practicable to overcome this cause of

Certainly, the time Is ripe. Mankind
has been moving at a rapid pace. It
is a hard, materialistic ago. Tho rich
havo becomo moro and more lavish
and oppressive of tho poor, "and tho
poor have given themselves up very
largely to the thought of how to keep'
up with tho procession. It might seem
io tho unthinking that this Is the
hardest of conditions for religious en
thusiasm to break in upon. But tho
truth Is that human nature swings,
like tho pendulum, from tho extremo
of Idealism to that of materialism and
from the mntcrlnllsm back to idealism.
Its attitude to-day is no Indication that
It will be tho snmo to-morrow. World
wide mntcrlnllsm works Its own cure.
Tho whole thing eventually brenks
down of Its own weight. Men's minds
becomo Bitrfelted nnd susceptible to
other nnd very different considerations.
It is then remembered nnd proclnlmcd
that man docs not llvo by bread nlono.
Wo mny hnvo so much of tho now
and hero ns to sicken of It, and turn
to thought of the beyond for rest and

' At tho meeting of the Kellglous Edu
catlonnl Association In Boston Itlshop
Lawrence made somo excellent re
marks on tho power nnd value of
wealth. Other speakers had referred
to the ngo ns materialistic and had
deplored tho fact that it wan devoted
to commercialism. Without refuting
anything that had been said tho bishop
of Massachusetts spoko on tho Import
nnco of money nnd especially Its value
lu connection with spiritual and In
tellectual matters. "Why Is It," said
lllshop Lawrence, "that we nro some
times nfrnld of tho enormous lncrensc
of wealth? Increase of wealth Is ono
of tho greatest opportunities of this
country and wo ought to glory In it
nnd rejolco In It Just ns any man ought
to rejolco in tho Increase of his phy

mind nnd Iicnrt nnd the chnractcr to

lllshop Lnwrcnco Is tho more remnrk
nblo becnuso It seems to bo Uio pnrt
of tho clergy and of tho collego pro
fessor In these days to decry wealth
and tho amount of attention given to
tho acquisition of It Not thnt tho
clergy nnd tho collego professor do not
want money, for they are alwnys beg
ging from men of wealth, but they
borate tho spirit that prompts tho pur
suit of It and do not nppreclato tho
fact that tho business man must give
himself unwcarlodly to tho acquisition
of n fortune exactly as tho scholar
must glvo his dnys nnd nights to tho
pursuit of knowledge, lllshop Lnwrcnco
placed tho stress where It should bo
placed. Ho accented yio necessity of
splrltunl nnd moral development along
with acquisition of riches. Ho has no
fear for tho Increase of material
wealth cither by tho Individual mnn
or by the nation if nlong with It there
is growth in mind, heart and char
acter. There Is an Insincerity In con
stantly begging for money and then
formally denouncing thoso who mnko n
business of earning it. lllshop Law
rence's position Is consistent "not to
fear tho increaso of wealth, but to fear
tho loss -of tho Inspiration of religion
nnd of the Intelligence which ought to
go with it"
An Almost Faultless Climate.
Tho cllmnto of tho Everglades Is
almost faultless. It Is singularly equa

cold, und not subject to sudden clinugo.
Even n "northy," coming out of tho
region of lco and snow, Is soon soften
ed to milder temperature; and the heat
of summer Is made genial, thought tho
mercury may bo well up In tho
eighties, by tho ozonUcd nlr which Is

Is divided Into the dry anil rainy sea
sons. The latter may be roughly silk
en of ns Including Juno nnd September,
although, well In the (Hades, sudden
light showers lu limited areas are like
ly at any season, and In tho autumn a
high degreo of humidity Is constant.
A llfotlmoi might be spent lu tho re

Laughs Too Much.
Ono Kansas City policeman cannot
go to tho theaters becauso ho laughs
so long nnd loud nt ovciy Joko that ho
stops tho performance. He wns put on
u beat whero his duty took him Inside
a thoater for a fow minutes every
evening, and ho asked to bo chunged,
becauso ho said tho theater people
wouldn't let him stay Inside, even
when he bought a tlckot.
lleforo ho was married he took his
sweetheart to a show once, but at tho
end of the second act tho manager
touched him on tho back nnd said ho
would have to get out. Ho hud all the
actors laughing.
"Hut I paid to see this show," pro
tested tho policeman. "If you put me
out I shall Insist on your giving my
money back."
"We'll bo glad to do that, all right,"
said tho manager.
And they did.
Cold fioui Hyuiputlijr, ,
Coldness of feet and limbs Is almost
Invariably en evidence of Indigestion.
Tho coUluess Is due not to tho weak
ness of tho heart or feebleness of cir
culation, as Is generally supposed,' but
to tho contraction of tho smull ur
terles, preventing blood from entering
tho parts. There Is generally an Irri
tation of the abdominal sympathetic
nerve centers which control tho circu
lation uf tho lower extremities. This
dlltlculty Is not to be removed by ex
ercise or by any special application to
tho limbs, but by removal of the
causes of Irritation. This may be a
prolapsed stomach, or chronic Indiges
tion. Hot und cold foot baths are val
uable. These act not simply on tho
feet und limbs, but by retlex nctlou
nrfect benellclally tho abdominal sym
pathetic centers, which are lu a dis
eased condition.

A City in Itself
Have you ever stopped to consider that a modern
express train, like the St. Louis Special, is practically a
city in Itself a place where you can sleep, chat, smoke,
read, dine and go a-vislting, just about as you would at
your own home?
It makes little difference what you want, you have,
only to summon a porter and he will swiftly and

THE TRAIL OF LEWIS AND GLARK
Was the. pioneer American trail west of tha Missouri river and tho results of that
exploration of 18046 were of 'tremendous Importance to tho United States and
they were never more apparent than now.
A publication relating to the Lewis and Clark expedition, just Issued by Q.
P. Putnam's Sons, New York, stands peculiarly alone. This edition Is a two vol

Olln D. Wheeler, Is the welt known writr of the popular Wonderland series of
tho Northern Paclno Hallway, In connection with which he made his studies and
researches for this work.
Mr. Wheeler has traveled .several thousand miles over the route of Lewis and
Clark, lie has camped out, climbed mountains, tfollowed old Indian trails, and
visited remote points made memorable by those explorers. Their route across the
Bltterroot mountains has been followed, identified and mapped.
The Trail of Lewis and Clark" Is illustrated In color and half tone from
paintings, drawings and maps, by Paxson. DeCarap, and Russell, made under Mr,
Wheeler's direction, and from photographs taken specially for the purpose. The.
writer tells his own story and supplement it with pertinent extracts from Lewis
and Clark, and a hdst of other historical and narrative writers that connect the
past with the present. Exact excerpts and photographlo reproductions, In half
tone, from the Original Manuscript Journals of Lewis and Clark are given. A.
chapter Is devoted to the Louisiana Purchase, another to the preparatory meas
ures for the exploration, and another to tho history of each man of the expedi
