Occupants of the White House hnre gono to tho cop Itol for their second limURtirntlnns this litis nnturnlly been the enso with every two-term President since Washington became the seat of government. But no man-already In that olllce has ever gone through the ceremonial for the llrst time. This pecullur situation arises from the fact that no one of tho other Vice Presidents who has succeeded to the Presidency Tyler, Fillmore, John son or Arthur was elected for a sec ond term. When MeKlnley followed Cleveland in 1807, the Incoming nnd the outgoing Presidents were, according to custom, almost Inseparable compan ions on the Inaugural Journey. Four years ago, when Mr. MeKlnley was for n second time Inaugurated, there was no outgoing President to ride through the avenue with him. This year there will be none. It has never beforo hap pened twice In succession that thcro was no retiring President to accom pany the President-elect. The second Inauguration of n Piesldcut already In olllce has always seemed somewhat anomalous, since the ceremonial signi fies no real change of ndmlntstrntlou or of policy. This will explain why, In splto of nil efforts, second Inaugu rals seldom excite the interest, or at tract the crowds, of an original Induc tion into office. This time, however, as Mr. Itooscvelt has not beforo been honored in this way, the celebration promises to bo unusually "brilliant. Preparations on nn extensive scale aro already under way. The annual report of the comptroller of the currency gives, In a few figures, an nmnztng Illustration of nvnlluble wealth nnd llnauclal strength of this American nation. The banking power of tho worldthe capital, surplus, dc Kslts nnd circulation of nil Its banks Its fluid wenlth for the dally uses of Its Industry and commerce Is closely estimated at nearly $M ,000,000,000. Of this oggrcgnto nil the other countries combined havo a little less than $10, 000,000,000. The United States of America nlono has nearly $H,000,000. 000. In other words, under the Htnrs and Htrlpes, which lloat over less than one-thirteenth of tho land area of tho globe, nnd to which less than one seventeenth of Its Inhabitants owe al legiance, in two-fifths of the fluid, act ive, working wealth of the human race. Uncle Bam, the financial giant among tho nations, Is using his strength as beneficially to mankind ns any, nnd mora ao thnn many, na becomes an Intelligent and highly civilized giant. According to a recent bulletin of the Agricultural Department, the United States Is tile richest country on the Klobc, and the farmer the richest of nil classes of citizens. The bulletin estl mutes the total value of the farmer's crops at $.1,200,000,MX) as iiKalnst n to tal of sa.07.1,000,000 In 11)02 and $:' R15.000.000 In 11(01. This year's enor mous total Is made up as follows: Corn, SDW.OOO.OOO; wheat. S.W1, 000.000: cotton, JOOO.OtKl.OOO; hay, $."(0,000,000: potatoes, $158,000,000; oats, rye, liar ley, tobacco, buckwheat, vegetables, fruits and other agricultural products, SltTiO.OOO.OOO. Though the wheat crop Is short the price Is higher and the value of the crop this year Is $108, 000,000 over the crop of IDOIJ. Tho next Congress, according to completo but uuoniclul returns, will have In tho House of Itepreseutntlves only 134 Democrats In n total of :ISH members. This gives the Hepiibllcaus n inujorlty of 118. All but i!0 of the Democratic members nre from the Southern Ktates. Three Stntes Louis, laun, Mississippi nnd Texas send Kolld Democratic delegations. Ten States California, Colorado, Kansas, Maine, New Hampshire, Oregon, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington nnd West Virginia have solid Republican delegations. : : Klve pensioners are on the roll on account of the revolution, 1,1 111 on ac count of the war of 1812, 4,73-1 on ac count of the Indian wars, und 13,87-1 on nccount of tho Mexican wnr. The great bulk of the roll Is ns follows; Civil war, Invalids, 703,430; widows, 248,300; Spanish war, invalids, 0.200; widows, 3,002; regular establishment, Invalids, 0,170; widows, 2,038. The place of honor In the Inaugural parade March 4 will b given to the Filipino scouts, now at St. Louis. This Is In accordance with the wish of President Hoosevelt, which the Wnr Department has arranged to gratify by delaying the departure of the bcouts for their home, until lifter that date. : : More than 1,000,000 nnines nre now on the pension roll of the United States, the exact number being 1,000, 781, an Increase of 3,781 since June 30. From present Indications It will be en larged further ns a result of the opera tions of order No. 78, which Is adding thousands of veterans who previously were Ineligible. One marked effect of the rule providing for old age pensions Is the decrease In tho work of tho pen sion bureau. It Is estimated that about 500 clerks khjii will be dismissed Five sheep without wool were re cently Imported from tho Barbados by the Department of Agriculture, In tho hope that they could bo successfully Introduced in the Southern States, where the ordinary American sheep is uncomfortable In tho summer because of the thick woolen shirt which ho has to wear. The Barbados sheep Is either ted or fawn-colored, with Mack hading, and has coarse hair instead of wool. The sheep looks like a small cow or deer, and la highly prised for its leak : BOZEMAN DOHART&YATE8, Dealer In Frmmh mnd Smlt Mmmtm And Poultry.
