MR. ED. BURNS AND BRIDE.

Honeymoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Burns tarried
In Portland a day or so this week
whllo on route to San Francisco.
Their prosonco here suggested tho
pleasant llttlo romance connected
with what Hymen did whon he mado
them husband and wlfo. Mrs. Burns,
formerly Miss Edith Hoffman, ono of
the leading society young ladles of
Eugene, this state, had promised to
become tho wlfo of Mr. Burns, al
though her parents Insisted on her
marrying another man whom thoy had
chosen without her consent. By clov
er diplomacy sho succeeded In defer
ring tho ceremony that would havo
pleased her parents until an opportune
timo came to delight hor own heart
and mind by marrying the man whom
sho loved nnd had chosen for herself.
Mr. Burns is one of tho proprietors
of tho Railway and Marino News, a
popular Seattle publication, und Is
known as ono of the enterprising
newspaper men of tho coast. Ho was
confident that ho had won tho Eugeno
prize and, therefore, bided his tlmo.
In August last Miss Hoffman visited
friends In Seattle and whllo there mot
Mr. Burns, of course. The young peo
ple concluded that to mako assurance
doubly 8uro they would go to Everett
nnd bo married. This they did on tho
21st of last August. However. Mrs.
Burns' fathor was at that time 111 with
heart trouble and on that account It
was decided to keep tho marriage a
secret for a time, fearing that to tell
him might result Berlously. Recently
her father passed to his reward; soon
thereafter the young couple announced
their marriage and are now enjoying
their deferred honeymoon.
