Now Ycrk Nov. 10. Returns show
n "ti'iullly increasing Republican plur

Roosevelt'B plurality in tlio popular
voto will bo, in round numbers, 12,000,

nation, accorditiK to all indications,
will exceed 1,800,000 tho Krcatest over

The nearest appioacli to thia voto
woh in 1800, when McKinlcy rocelvcd
a plurality approximating 860,000, and
In 1872, when Giant received 702,001.
Tlio interest now centers in Missouri
and Maryland. Lato olection rcturna
Intllcnto that tho former state la in tho
Republican column so far as presi
dential electors aro concerned, but that
Joseph V. Folic, tho Democratic candi
date, has been elected governor.
In Maryland tho presidential voto
will probably bo cast for Koopovelt.
Lato toturnn tonight indicate that
Thomas A. Smith linn been elected to
congress by tho Domocrats in tho I1 list
district.
Oregon.
Portland, Nov. 0. Election rcturna
in Oregon indicate that thu Republican
plurality will reach perhaps 43,000.
Complete luturus aro not yet available.
Tlio total voto foi president will fall n
ltttlo short of that for supicmo judge
last June, when 03,000 ballots wero
cast for tho four candidates of that
olllco. Tho number of votes In that
olection was nearly 100,(100, and tho
number of votes cast last Tuesday
seems to bo about 10 per cent short of
that polled in thu last state olection.
Seven counties lmvo adopted prohi
bition Gilliam, Yamhill, Jackson,
Ronton, Tillamook, Cooa and Guriy.
Sixteen counties lmvu rujectcd prohi
biten Clackamas, Columbia, Douglas,
Grant, Lane, Lincoln, Linn, Malheur,
Marion, Monow, Multnomah, Slier
man, Umatilla, Union, Wasco and
Washington.
Lincoln was thought to have gonu
"dry" early in thu count, but pulls out
against prohibition by a narrow marg
in. In Linn tho result was very close,
prohibition being defeated by 00 votes.
Twelve precincts, however, voted,
"dry" in tlio county, including Iialsey,
Shedd, Tangent, South Lebanon, Houth
llrortiisvillo,. Jackson has adopted
prohibition, and thu "wet" majorities
of Medford, Jacksonville and Gold
Hill aro therefore unavailing.
Glllarn is a prohibition county by
34 majority. All precincts in Wash
ington county have rejected prohibi
tion. Two precincts in Clackamas
voted "dry"' Garfield and Violu;
likewise 13 precincts in Douglas, four
In Union, two in Wheeler, four in
Multnomah, four in Malheur, six in
Umatilla, one in Clatsop, six in Ma
rion, three in Wasco, two in Sherman.
In Lane county Junction City adopted
prohibition.
Indiana.
Indianapolis, Ind., Nov. 10, Secre
tary Sims, of thu Republican ftato
central committee, said today that from
unofficial reports from 80 of the 02
counties the Republicans national
ticket had received a plurality of 74,
000 in Indiana.
Massachusetts.
Boston, Nov. 0. Complete returna
from the state give Roosevelt 264,552;
Parker, 108,273; Roosevelt's plurality
80,270.' For governor: DourIob, Dem.,
254,311; Bates, Rep., 108,001; Doug
las' majority, 55,710.
Delaware.
Wilmington, Del., Nov. 0. RoobovoU
has carried Delaware by about 2,500.
The Republicans claim that they will
have 40 of the 62 members of tho legis
lature on joint ballot.
Tennessee.
Nashville, Term., Nov. 9. Both
Democrats and Republicans are claim
ing the state. Returns indicate a ma
jority of 15,000 votea for tho Democrat
ic national ticket, and perhaps 5,000
less for Frazler, Democratic candidate
for governor.
Iowa.
Dea Moines, Nov. 0. Returna are
slow in coming in, but tho indications
on well-distributed retrrna indicate that
Roosevelt's plurality will be 125,000
and tho entire state ticket will have
about the same number. Republicans
elect ten congressmen.
Georgia.
Savannah, Ga., Nov. 0. Thia atato
will send all 13 Democratic electors to
he college to name the president.
Washington.
Seattle, Wash, Nov. 10. King coun
ty gives Roosovelt a plurality of 15,
000; Mend carries thlft county bjr 7,000.
Pierco goes Republican on national is
sues by 7,600, and gives Mead 1,750.
Spokane is more than 4,600 Btrong for
Roosevelt, though Tumor carries tho
county by Icfs than half its eatlmnted
plurality.
Tlio state of Washington placed no
limit on its Roosevelt vote. Threo
font the o( thu votors who cast ballots
for him might lmvu stayed a homo
and Ptlll ho would havo carried thu
stnto. Though the statu count is still
incompleted and Inaccurate, it is evi
dent tlio Rosovcit electora have a plur
ality over Parker of 70,000 or better,
This is 30,000 stronger than the
wildest Republican estimates mado it
before election, and as much better
than tho flrst returns indicated. Tho
atato was practically unanimous, for
tho aparso 24,000 Parker votes out of
a total that will exceed when off-party
totals aro ilulshed 125,000 is not to bo
seriously considered.
Idaho.
BoIpo, Idaho, Nov. 10, Returns
from tho Idaho election have come In
more slowly than any previous tlrno
in tho history of the state. Thom en
gaged in gathering figures complained
that things went with such a Hwcep
that udgoH a lul dorks thought there
was no further interest in it and sealed
up returns without taking copies or
giving nnyonu else opportunity to do so.
So far 54,000 votes on tho Republi
can and Democratic candidates for
president havo boeti heard from and
63,181 on governor. Of tho presiden
tial voto, Roosevelt has 38,782 and
Parker 15,317. Roosuvolfa majority ia
23,476 and his percentage of vote in 72.
Gooding has 34,744 votes and Heltfeld
18,437. Gooding's majority la 10,307,
and his percentage 03.
Thu voto thia year has fallen far bo
low the registration. Tho latter wna
about 80,000. Two yonra ago tho Re
publican and Democratic voto on gov
ernor was 57,81)5. As nearly as can be
ascertained thcro is an increnso of 12
per cent on Democratic and Republican
presidential votes, Thia would Indi
cate a total of 04.800 for Roosovult and
Parker in thu state. If Roosevelt's
percentage of 72 hu ran led through ho
will lead Parker by 28,500, while Good
lug's lead over Ileitfeld would bo 10,-
000.
Tho Democrats elect four mombct of
the loigslaturo a senator from Custer,
u senator and representative from HI
morru and u representative from Lcnihl.
Maryland.
Baltlmoro, Nov. 10.-Tlio oillclal
returns received here up to a lato hour
tonight indicate that the plurality for
tho prsidunthtl candidates lust Tuesday
was vury closu, possibly only 100 on
either uido. It is probable that Secre
tary of Stato Tilghman will ho called
upon to decide which of thu electors
will bo entitled to cast their votes in
Washington. From thu oillclal returns
thus far received thu indications are
that the Republicans have ulocted ccv
en and the Democrats one of thu elect
ors of tho htato. Returns received
from 11 counties of thu statu glvu thu
Republican electors u plurality of 174.
Until tho canvassing boards of thu
Euveral counties and of llaltlmoru city
shall lmvo examined and counted thu
ballots, it will bu Impossible to say
which of tho presidential candidates
will receive Maryland's electoral vote.
There la no change in thu congressional
situation, tlio Democrats and Itopubli
carta each having elected three members
of tire next house of reprcBentativea.
California,
San Francisco, Nov. 10, Tho few
additional unofficial returns received
today from various points iu California
do not affect ,tho results already an
nounced. Tho oillclal count will be
required to dotormino thu exact figures,
but it ia evident that Roosevelt's plur
ality in thu state will approximate
115,000. Tlio legislature, which elects
a United States senutor, will have 103
Republican members to 17 Democrats
and Labor Unionists.
Utah.
Salt Lake City, Nov. 10. Additional
returna from Tuesday's election, cover
ing every county in thu stato, have in
creased the majority for Roosevelt eo
tremendously that it ia probable It will
not run abort of 27,000. Parker had a

31,000 votes, Roosevelt received 20,
100, and ParKor 8,100.
