"Bichloride of mercury" is n frequent mistake made by those Intending to ask for calomel or "chloride of mer cury," a uitstako not without dangers, aa tho largest dose ever given of the former Is one-half grain. Another powerful medicine waa sold rocently as a hair wash by a customer asking for "bicarbonate" Instead of "carbon ate of potash." Chlorate of potash, ono of the commonest of purchases, Is seldom asked for correctly, though the mistake Is less likely to tlo Harm, as the' bichlorides and chlorides general ly substituted are chemicals rather than drugs. Until quite re cently the left band has been subor dinated from childhood. The well-regulated man Is supposed to do nearly all one-handed things with his right hand. To be aura, on drives and polnta a gun and holds a fishing rod with his left hand, but In general no man does with his left hand what ho can do with his right. This is largely tho result of early training. The moth er and the nurse begin to Insist upon tho use of the right hand when the child Is still In arms. Even when n child ia plainly left handed he Is'forced In most cases to reverse nature. Theoretically thla Is wrong. Nature objects to this arbitrary rule and takes revenge.
