fulluro of many of tho ladles of tho
city to tako part and attend what or
iginally was intonded to bo a Leap
Year ball by tho Carnation Club.
Whon tho matter of tho formation of
tho olub was suggested to mo I wil
lingly consented to not only become a
member, but to lend whatever Influ
ence I might havo to mnko tho affair
a success. When tho first meeting
was held I discovered that on ac
count of tho gcnoral and promiscuous
mixing that troublo was bound to
result and for myself decided to cut
looso and have nothing to do with it.
Yet whllo I did not tako part in any
meeting I never in any manner did
anything that would lntorforo with its
success. And since the manager of
tho affair knew my position iu tho
matter I was compollcd to return the
eleventh-hour Invitation which I had
tho honor of receiving.
