Many yours nj?o Mr. Phlpps' fortune
had expanded to the million mark and
his Influence was felt In tho financial
world; but he wtis habitually modest
and shrank from publicity, wherefore
his nnmo was but seldom heard. In
the steel business he became a factor
almost as powerful ns bis associate,
Mr. Carnegie, and his fortune grew
apace. In 1001 he was publicly classed
witli the 11,827 other American million

Two years ago he left Pittsburg,

LEAPING SALMON "SNAPSHOT."
Photograpilcully speaking, nothing
Imaginable can bo more difficult to

Nobody can tell when, or Just where,
he Is going to Jump, and a ecu ra to focus
Is out of tho intention. Probably tho

Tho average person who picks up a
railroad tJmo folder does not realise
tho n mount of work which tho prep

A big Western railroad, for Instance,
has a general time folder made Tip

2,000 names of towns, gives the sched

there Is a change In time 00,000 figures
