Delicate colors are em ployed when n color Is chosen, ami small patterns rnle. The large, sprawly de signs seen early In the season in silks and transparent materials arc not used much for separate waists, but come In RAM PLUS OI-' HEl'AKATK HOUIGUR. where skirt and bodice are of the samo material. White lawn, hwIsm lu dotted nnd embroidered effects, mulls both lu nllk and cotton, muslins and all the soft light-weight silks are employed lor waists. Many are composed of alternate rows of tucks and Insertion. In either em broidery or lace, others have tucked backs with lace trimmed fronts and vari ous colors of velvet ribbon banding. Oth ers have a deep bnnd of ecru lnce ucross the front to suggest a bolero effect, with tucking above or below the bund. Oth ers show serpentine effect, with deep yoke nnd front of lace, Insertion or tucks. Mnny have yokes of "lace or handsome material. That lu tli mnll picture wuk white silk mull laid in tiny tuckx nil around, and worn with a kcleton bolero of wedjruwood blue etu mine trimmed with ecru point lace, and belted with wedgewood blue velvet. From left to right in the top row of the next picture ore a white hwIhh tlnlfched with Inch tucks, cream lace Insertion and sreen velvet ribbon; a white silk cauzu bowing tucks, ecru lace Insertion, lace rosettes and black velvet belt, aud a white lawn bodice having a deep band of white naliuook embroidery and ro sette of crimson velvet. Of the lower pair of bodice, the first was biscuit linen, It vest of white jilrjue embroider ed in black and finished with black pearl button. Pique also allowed In edging of jacket, double collar aud sleeves, and was embroidered in the puffs. Last come an all-over white lace bodice, with black taffeta bolero edged with white velvet embroidered in black and rose pink. Linen gowns hold their stylishness for summer, ami the newest fashions are re llcctcd In them. The two-piece suit Is es pecially attractive In linens. Their skirts show trimming of some kind, nnd the jackets are either skeleton In effect, or have a sailor collar. The double or triple sailor finished with stitched bands Is newly stylish. Vests of white plquo or linen eniiiroiuered in iirignt colors or black are another feature. I.lnetf, la,wn nnd gingham shirt waists are worn be neath, with linen collar and four-lu-lriud tie. The sleeves usually have puffs' of some kind, generally matching the vest. Iluttous trim many of them. There are few skirts that do not show trimming of some Vlml, either In stitched bands, circular tlmiuce, Spanish llounces, gathering, tucking, stitching, lace bauds, insertion or medallions. Narrow soutache and the narrow widths of serpentine braid lu white, black nnd colors are at present much favored for skirt trimming, nnd are ceeu on many of the silk gowns, Jackets show some form of bastine or postilion effect, and are on the bolero or ctoh onlor. Many blouse in front, while others are cut away to show a handsome lnce or chiffon front. They usually show the same trimming as that on the skirt. Veilings, ctnmlncs, silk and wool mix tures, light-weight silks and pongees are used largly. Several suits made of transparent wash materials were pretty. When such stuffs are used the coat bod Ice Is usually of very heavy lace with a bodice of the material underneath, both always worn logeiner. imiiockiuk hiiu gathering enter largely Into new gowns of the softer materials. Foulards made up In this manner look very dainty. Small patterns nro usually employed, with black qr white chantllly or guipure ns trim ming. The criticism so often modo of the princess gown that it suggests a wrapper, does not hold agnlust'urreut models, the trimming iulte doing away with such faults. Hoc the middle gown of thu next ldetur for example. It wns apple green canvas cloth and white silk serpentine braid, with yoke, collar and vest of white satin, the last embroidered In gold. The reason that such dresses nro not In the usual demnml from women of Hue ilg tires Is, probably, that all stylish skirts nro so truthful as to the 'wearers' out Hues. At the left of this dress Is pic- j t tired a champagne colored pcau uo ole stitched In black nnd finished with black Bilk noutache. Hllks of tills shade ure very stylish and make up handsomely. A kowii of white silk anil wool sublime remains In this group, it had a white silk collar embroidered in silver aud black knots, aud a vet of white lace. Fashion Notes, Either buckles or strings servo for fastening Oxfords, Coral, gobelin blue, tan and reseda are the first choice lu colors. Nearly every garment has a touch of black, If uo more than a short hair Hue, We were wont to trim cloth with lac appliques; now we (ind lace with cloth appliques.
